GMS Principal's Corner
December 18, 2020
Dear Galvin Families,
Yesterday's snow day was a vision of what winter break will be - a little time together and a little time with each of us doing our own thing. I wonder how long into the vacation it will take before I hear the first "I'm bored" or I first ask the boys to "put the screens down". In preparation, in case you experience the same thing in your house, I am sharing a resource (see below) of 200 things for teens to do when they're bored. Maybe there's an idea in there for your teen to do on their own, with a sibling or with you!
As we come close to closing out 2020, I'd like to take a moment to recognize a few of our students who are doing great things ~ our PAWS recipients. Each month our teams of teachers recognize students who exemplify our Core Values: Positive Attitude, Academic Excellence, Work Ethic, and Supportive of Others. Today, I'd like to share with your our November and December PAWS recipients. Congratulations to all. We are proud of you.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Sarah

Local Experts Talk with 7th Graders About Natural Hazard Preparedness
During Community Block on Friday December 11th, 7th Grade Team teachers hosted two community experts, Canton Fire Chief Charlie Doody and MEMA representative Christian Cunnie to culminate our recent science unit. The guest speakers shared their expertise on the natural hazards that have or are likely to occur in Canton and Massachusetts. They discussed what their departments do to prevent natural disasters and how they respond to such tragedies. The experts gave us very useful tips on how to prepare your family for these emergencies and impending natural disasters including where you can go in case of emergency, how to prepare emergency kits and what evacuation routes are used in case of emergency. We are extremely grateful for the time that Chief Doody and Mr. Cunnie took to be with us!
Here is a link to their presentation! There is a lot of useful information.
