*Please consider helping your child's class as this is a very busy and hectic day. We want the children to have a wonderful time and we can insure their safety and enjoyment if we have a few volunteers. In order to volunteer or even be on campus that day, you must have had a background check done within the 2015-2016 year. Officer Reeves will be checking to make sure that everyone has checked in through the office. If your background check has not been done you will not be cleared to participate. Check with Paula in the office if you have any questions.

Thank you in advance for all of your help and support throughout the year. We hope you can come and be a part of your child’s special day.

Our week...

This week we talked about the things we can do when we practice hard and set goals. We each set a goal and tried to reach it. We continued to practice simple addition and subtraction. We practiced correct letter formation and correct directionality with the letters in our names. We read about Leo; a little tiger that couldn't seem to do anything until one day when he was able to do everything. Leo was just a "late bloomer." We created flowers and wrote one thing that we can do now that we couldn't do at the beginning of the year. During our week of exploration, we melted colored ice cubes and made predictions about the colors we would have once the ice became water.

Phonological Awareness- We started to put sounds together to make words.

M O P=mop, R U N=run, D I G=dig. We got to blend many sounds together to

create words.

Literacy- We Are All Alike We Are All Different, Leo the Late Bloomer, The Little Engine That Could, Read and Rise, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. After reading each of our books we gave the students the opportunity to practice story retell using the terminology of beginning, middle, and end.

Vocabulary this week was: goals, bloomed, sloppy, spinning, catching, subtraction, addition

Next week...

Next week our theme is "We're Big Now!" We will look at pictures from the beginning of the year and recent pictures to see how much we've grown. We will compare the weight of objects using terminology like heavier, heavy, lighter, and light. We will talk about what it means to be a hero. Our literature this week will be about school activities. Some of these activities we've experienced this year and some we will experience in the future.

Literacy- Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, The Little Engine That Could, If You Take a Mouse to School, My New School.

Vocabulary will be: proud, success, practice, heavier, heavy, light, lighter, weight, balance, merrily, treats, predict, locker, notebook, clay.

For the remainder of the year we will continue to review all letters, numbers, colors and shapes. This includes producing letter sounds and describing each shape.
