October Newsletter
Notes from the principal
This month we are talking about Responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others. Responsibility is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Across grade levels students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
We are off to a fabulous start to the school year! Please bring any questions and concerns to your teacher's attention during conferences. If you seek additional support, please reach out to me as I am happy to help.
Fondly,
Dana Croatt
Testing is a part of education.
We recommend that all students participate in the statewide assessments. State tests are important because they provide a standardized and objective measure of student performance, allowing educators, policymakers, and parents to assess the effectiveness of educational systems and identify areas for improvement. These assessments help ensure accountability in the education system and guide resource allocation to support schools and students in need. Additionally, state tests offer valuable data for curriculum refinement, instructional adjustments, IEP goals, and tailored interventions to enhance overall educational quality and student success. State tests are important for parents as they provide a transparent and measurable way to track their child's academic progress and proficiency in key subjects. These assessments offer valuable insights into how well their child is performing compared to established educational standards and their peers. Students with IEPs and 504 Plans will have accommodations to ensure a successful and stress free testing environment.

Halloween Costume Information
Halloween is quickly approaching! We are doing a few things to celebrate here at
school and can use your support. On Tuesday, October 31st, we are inviting students to wear their
costumes to school.
While we want to encourage students to have a great time celebrating, our number one focus at school is creating a safe environment for learning. As such, students are allowed to wear costumes, as long as they meet the following requirements:
• Costumes must fit above student's regular clothes
• Costumes must follow our regular student dress code
• Please save masks and/or full face makeup for Trick-or-Treating and not at school
• Weapons, blood or inappropriate props should be left at home
• Costumes should not be suggestive or revealing
Thanks so much for all you do to support our school!
All of your ongoing participation is greatly appreciated.
Notes from the Health Room
What a great start to our 23/24 school year. Just a few reminders from the health room as the colder weather will soon arrive. Please send appropriate gear per weather such as hats, gloves, jacket and possibly some rain boots. The children go outside 2x a day unless the weather is below 0 degrees. Please also remember that if you are sending in any medication it needs to be dropped off and picked up by the parent/guardian. The student may not transport any type of medication and this includes cough drops. Links to the forms to be filled out are attached below. If your child requires an Epi Pen, inhaler or doctor prescribed meds to be taken daily at school or to be taken incase of an emergency please bring them to school as soon as possible. I do have 2 child Epi Pens in the health room incase of an emergency. Please also see the nurse's email that was sent out in skyward, which lists reasons to keep your child home and why your child may be sent home due to illness.
