Message from the Principal

If you have been watching the news, you know that our Covid-19 cases in Hennepin County are rising. As I listen to this news, the health of our staff and students has been on my heart and mind all week. Our school learning models are dependent on Covid-19 county numbers, among other local factors described in our Data dashboard. I commit to following Hopkins' 4 Ws and encourage you to do so too:

  • Watch your distance
  • Wear a face covering
  • Wash your hands
  • When sick, stay home

Please know that our school leaders are working together to plan what a pivot to district-wide distance learning may look like. And, our aspiration is to continue serving students who are identified as most in need of in-person learning.

Along with our current health data, I am also keenly aware of how the dual pandemic we are facing might be impacting our students. As a mother, I worry about the social aspects that my son is missing by not participating in a typical school year. I have the same concerns for our students that are engaging in our distance learning model. Just as we maintain our physical health, our mental health is important, and needs to be maintained.

As a reminder, Hopkins Public Schools has created a wonderful website containing mental health resources called The Loop. Click on the link below to explore the resources available.

In addition, please read the section below to learn about the Change to Chill opportunity. Just as we exercise to improve our physical health, we can engage in opportunities such as this to maintain our mental health.

Be well. We are a strong school community, and we are in this together!

Free Sessions on Coping during COVID-19

Allina Health’s teen mental well-being initiative, Change to Chill (CTC), is partnering with Hennepin County Public Health to promote free virtual sessions to teens and parents/caregivers throughout Hennepin County. These sessions will feature and be led by community representatives and culturally diverse mental health providers and healers, highlighting adapted Change to Chill content to offer more culturally inclusive resources for youth and parent populations most impacted by COVID-19. Week of November 23rd for Hybrid Students

Thank you for your input regarding our hybrid schedule for the week of November 23. While your feedback demonstrated our community’s commitment to all of our students, we also heard that a change to the schedule would create hardships for some of our families. After much consideration, Hopkins Schools have decided to not make a change to the schedule. Therefore, students in Cohort A will attend in person school on Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th and the students in Cohort B will engage in Distance Learning for these two days.

COVID-19 Dashboard

We're excited to reveal the first phase of our COVID-19 Dashboard, which is designed to help families, staff, and the community understand the data points that most impact our learning models. These data points will be updated on Fridays. We will add local district health data and specific staffing data in the coming weeks.
