Principal's Update
Hello Grizzlies!
I want to thank our students for continuing to participate in their Canvas classes on a daily basis. Attendance rates are good so far, please keep it up! Good attendance is the strongest predictor of academic success in any school year, but this year more than any other.
Just a reminder that Monday, Oct. 12th is Indigenous People’s Day. This is a day to celebrate and honor the rich history and culture of Native American Peoples. It is important for us to remember that our community is built on land that rightfully belonged to various tribes, including the Shasta, Takelma, and the Cow Creek Umpqua. A great link to learn more about local tribes is here.
We all miss seeing our students on campus, but it is great nonetheless to see your faces in Zoom. So just a reminder to our students to please turn on your Zoom video during class-time whenever possible! Your teachers and classmates want to get to know you. When students have their Zoom videos turned on it improves the level of participation and engagement in the class and makes for a better experience for everyone. If you have a good reason for having your video off, please share that privately with your teacher.
Thanks to all of you for making our first three weeks of distance learning a success! We aim to build on that and continue to improve. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Benjamin Bell
Principal

ACT and SAT Updates
Due to Covid restrictions, Ashland High School will not be administering the ACT or SAT through the end of November. If students are allowed back on campus later in the fall, AHS will possibly open as a test site in December. Check 2020 ACT Updates and 2020 SAT Updates for the most current information about ACT /SAT testing. The majority of colleges that usually require ACT/SAT scores as part of the admissions process, have waived that requirement for the Class of 2021 as they know many seniors have been unable to test. Please check individual colleges to see their updated policies.
Students who still want to attempt to test this year can register for the ACT and SAT online, and those who qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible for fee waivers for both tests. Please contact karyn.barats@ashland.k12.or.us to obtain a fee waiver.
