Grade Levels Support the Falcon Fund
Last Friday, the 6th graders hosted their Movie and Mingle for the grade level fundraiser for the Falcon Fund! 6th graders had a blast eating popcorn, watching a movie, and mingling with their friends! They even closed out with dancing!
7th and 8th graders will wrap up this week with two Falcon Fund activities: Jail your Teacher contest, and a Literary Costume Dance Party! During lunch shifts this Thursday and Friday, 7th & 8th grade students can pay $1 per ticket to vote for their 4th block teacher to be "jailed". The teacher earning the MOST tickets will be thrown in jail and that class will earn a free period to party while their teacher is "in jail"!
On Friday, ALL students are encouraged to come to school in a costume representing their favorite character in literature. **Dress Code still applies!** And 7th & 8th graders can also pay $5 to attend a dance at the end of the day and show off their character's best dance moves! Note: 7th & 8th graders are not required to be in costume to attend the dance...but it makes it more fun!

Join us tomorrow, October 27th at 8:30-9:15 for our first Counselor Café meeting! This month we will be talking about Red Ribbon Week, which is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug/violence prevention and awareness campaign which takes place Nationwide each year. We will have our Substance Abuse Counselor, Ms. Edwards presenting to parents on this topic. We will have a light breakfast as well. Parents are welcome to bring thier students to this event. CMS Student Assignment & School Options Plan: Future Magnet Option for QHMS
The CMS School Board has been reviewing the district’s student assignment plan and how it should best support achievement for all students in alignment with the Student Assignment Goals established in February 2016. On October 11th, the board proposed revisions to the Magnet Lottery process to give families more choice in schools available to their child, and build more socioeconomic integration (SES) across the district starting with the 2017-2018 school year. The proposal also seeks to implement magnet programs at more schools, potentially including QHMS in coming years.
We encourage you and your neighbors to GET INFORMED about the proposal and VOICE YOUR OPINION before the plan vote on Nov. 9th. Click the link to go to the Student Assignment website for all documents and meeting dates for public input.
Winter Sports Sign Ups
It's time to sign up for basketball and cheerleading! Tryouts will begin Tuesday, November 15. All paperwork is due to Coach Rose by Monday, November 14. Students must have an up-to-date physical, concussion waiver, fair-play contract, and participation waiver on file. If students turned in all of the paperwork for Fall Sports tryouts, they do not need to submit again, as long as the physical is current. Physicals will NOT be offered at the school. Forms can be printed here. Students have to have a 2.0 GPA.
