BAYHAWKS START STRONG
Greetings Bellingham Families
What a wonderful and engaging first week!
I have been reflecting on the first few days of school and the best word to describe those days, at least for me, is “gratitude.” I’m so thankful for the return of students to in-person instruction. I’m thankful for the staff who have created such a welcoming environment. I’m thankful for the support of families. And I’m most thankful for the energy and enthusiasm from students. They are excited to be back together and clearly understand the steps we need to take so we can remain together.
Our ASB Officers and Leadership class led two assemblies this past week. Our first assembly included introductions of the officers and generated excitement about our new mascot. In the second assembly, we just had fun! The classes had four volunteers compete in a sack race, the cheerleaders led us in our newest all-school cheer, and the athletes for season one were all recognized. Then, on Friday night, we hosted our first home football game where hundreds of students showed up in their new Bayhawks tshirts and cheered on our team. The school spirit filled me with pride and the number of students following appropriate protocols, even though we were outside, was encouraging.
In the weeks ahead, we will continue to pursue strong learning opportunities and strong culture and connection opportunities. We will continue to develop our Bayhawks identity in a way that provides a sense of belonging for every student…and every member of the BHS community.
At the end of this newsletter, I’ve added some images from our first few days. I hope you enjoy them.
With gratitude,
Marty Atkins, Principal
By the way, this is how I was introduced to the students last week...
