Important Updates
- This week we will begin word study. Student spelling lists will be written in their agenda on Mondays and they will bring a list home to practice spelling and sorting throughout the week. Spelling tests will be given on Fridays unless otherwise noted in their agenda. More information regarding our Word Study program will be sent home on Tuesday. Please ask to see your scholar's Word Study journal!
- Reading response homework will be starting this week. Each night your scholar should read the passage and use R.A.P to answer the questions. This homework assignment will be due on Fridays. Your scholar may work on this assignment throughout the week as your schedule allows. The reading response homework is not a reading log; your scholar should still be recording the minutes he or she reads on the pink GCS Reads 20 log sent home last week!
- We encourage families to come out this Thursday, September 10th from 6:30-7:30 for our curriculum night where you will be able to see a sample of the topics we will be covering this year in 4th grade. Chick-Fil-A pre - orders came home on Friday and are due tomorrow if you wish to purchase this meal. Chick-Fil-A will be available in the cafe beginning at 5:45.
Math
In math we will continue to investigate place value and numbers to one million.
Students will be comparing and ordering whole numbers based in the value of the digits in each number. Your scholar will read and write numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form.
Language Arts
This week we will be reading nonfiction texts and looking for nonfiction text features to help us comprehend what we are reading. We have a quiz on Wednesday, then we will begin non-fiction text structures. Students will be working on a project in class to create their own non-fiction brochure, which will be our writing assessment for this unit.
Science
Students will learn the role of vitamins, minerals, and exercise in maintaining a healthy body. We will have a special presentation on Tuesday. Our big nutrition test for this unit will be Tuesday, September 15.
