College Visits Over Spring Break

On the first Monday of Spring Intersession, BGHS counselors Mrs. Matthews and Miss Thomas took three students to Fort Wayne to visit the University of Saint Francis and Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW). The counselors and students were given walking tours of both campuses by current USF and IPFW students, learned about the unique housing options at both colleges, heard from admission counselors about admission standards at each school, and were treated to lunch in a dining hall at USF. It was a great chance to see two college campuses that are only two hours away from Beech Grove, and to compare a small, private university with a medium-sized, public university.

On Tuesday of Spring Intersession, BGHS counselors Mrs. Shively, Ms. Marra and Miss Thomas took 10 students to Indiana State University. Upon arrival, the group listened to an admissions presentation by a current admissions counselor and a current student panel. They talked heavily about their involvement in community service and were surprised to hear about our school commitment to community service. The group was also treated to lunch in the ISU dining hall, where they were happily greeted by Beech Grove’s own Jessica Benamon. The counselors and students were given walking tours of campus by two current ISU students. It was a great chance to see a midsize 4-year university campus that’s only 1.5 hours away from Beech Grove.

Wild for Wildlife!

From Coordinator, Jescee Sellas . . .

"Buzz Club students participated in a "Wild For Wildlife" program that took place the week of Spring Break intersession. The kiddos were engaged in various activities revolving around wildlife. They dissected owl pellets, made terrariums, and participated in a lot of other fun activities! On the last day of the program, Silly Safari came to visit and brought a live owl."

Photos from the program are pictured below.

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
