Good News!!
- The Sargent Aviation Club is closer to a planned visit to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. This week Parents and students held a planning meeting to lay the framework for a trip to the nations capital over spring break. The group is looking into commercial flights to Washington DC and scheduling visits to at least two aviation museums and other heritage sites. The Aviation Club consists of students in the Sargent Aviation classes studying a curriculum provided by the AOPA, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The curriculum is a four year STEM based curriculum centered on aviation careers. Students completing the 10th and 11th grades have the foundation to take the FAA private pilot written exam and get a headstart on a flying career. The studies also open the doors for other fields in aviation such as Air Traffic Control, Airport Management, Aircraft Mechanics and other related fields. Past graduates have used the class as a stepping stone to commercial flight schools, aviation engineering programs and the military. The Club has raised funds working at local airports and through generous donations from the aviation community. If you would like to adopt a Sargent Aviation Cadet and support this wonderful learning opportunity, donations would be greatly welcomed. A contribution should be made out to the "Sargent Aviation Club" and mailed or dropped off at Sargent High School.
- Shae and Grayson Romero both qualified for the Junior Olympic National Cross Country Meet in College Station, Texas this past December. In order to be invited to run Nationals, a child must be in the top 25 runners for their region. Grayson (7 years old and in 2nd grade) received a medal for 3rd place out of 220 children in his age range (7-8 year old's). Shae (11 years old and in 6th grade) came in 58th place out of 400 runners in her age range (11-12 year old's). Great job to both of you!!
