Lake Elementary School News
For the week of August 29
“If we have never been amazed by the very fact that we exist, we are squandering the greatest fact of all.” ~ Will Durant’s wise words are important to ponder. When we sit in awe of our own existence, we model for the next generation to do the same. From that stance, we are growing our asset-based lens and also feeling inspired to see the strengths in every human being. An asset-based approach focuses on strengths. Here’s a strength to sit in awe of: there are around 100 - 1000 trillion synapses (where nerve impulses pass from one neuron to another) in a human brain, and the number of possible ways of connecting them is greater than the number of atoms in the universe! Now, take a moment to be amazed!
Speaking of AMAZING, we LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! Please mark your calendars for Friday, September 2nd at 8:00 when we will have our Volunteer Training w/ Principal Coffee Chat to follow! The topics for our chat will be Empowered Learning Environments, Universal Design for Learning, Lake Logistics, and Q&A. We hope you will join us to hear about our asset-based learning lens at Lake!
Thank you to everyone that has already joined PTA! We’re hoping for 100% participation this year. Participation means simply signing up (and that is it) or helping in other ways, as your schedule allows. We can do it!

“Our deepest calling is to grow into our own authentic selfhood, whether or not it conforms to some image of who we ought to be. As we do so, we will not only find the joy that every human seeks — we will also find our path of authentic service in the world.”
~ Parker Palmer

PTA News and Notes
PTA is thrilled to welcome you back to school. We have SO MANY fun events planned for our students and our families.
These events include:
All student clubs, Rock-A-Thon, Book Fair, Back To School Party, Family Art Night, Trunk-Or-Treat, Science Night, Game Night, Family Dance, Lake Loves Reading, and any other event added to the calendar that includes all students.
In order to make sure we can include everyone, we are required to collect waivers from each student/family. This keeps us in good standing with our insurance. If this form is not filled out, your child will NOT be able to participate in any Lake PTA activity on campus.
Please go here to fill out the form ASAP:
Back to School Night
Did you miss Back to School Night? PTA had our first Association Meeting where we approved our calendar and budget for the year! Both can be found at Lakedolphins.org under “Agenda and Minutes”.
We also had information about our upcoming clubs at Back to School Night. Fall registration opens Wednesday 9/14 at 9am. Our first session begins the week of 9/26 and the cost is $15 per session.
Head to Student Clubs – Lake Elementary PTA (lakedolphins.org) for more information!
Thank you to everyone that has signed up for PTA this year! We appreciate all of our members!
Not a member yet? Please visit: https://jointotem.com/ca/oceanside/lake-elementary-pta to join LAKE PTA. Your $8 donation goes a long way to show your support of our school and our students. Volunteering is not a requirement of being a member.
Volunteer Interest List
If you would like to find out more about what volunteering with the PTA is like, please consider joining our interest list. We will reach out when there is an event or project that the PTA or the School needs help with. We don't expect you to help every time, but you will be kept in the loop if you sign up below.
Every Friday is spirit day at Lake! If you need new gear, our online store is now open! Go to our website at www.lakedolphins.org to purchase your tees or sweatshirts. We will deliver your purchase to your child at school.

Lake Student and Parent Handbook
The purpose of our Student and Parent Handbook is to assist our students and families with important information regarding school policies, procedures, and agreements we have set us up for us to have an enjoyable, successful, and safe school year.
Click on the link above to review the handbook. It is expected that each family reads through our Family Handbook. We appreciate your support and involvement as we work in partnership to provide a nurturing, inspiring, and rigorous educational program for each of our Dolphins.
This year, breakfast and lunch we will be free and offered for all Lake students. Students will be able to have breakfast before school starting at 7:40. Breakfast will be served in the covered patio and students will stay there while eating. Supervision will be provided as breakfast is a student-only time and parents will not be allowed in the breakfast area. Lunch will be provided for all students during the school day.
Here's the menu from our WaveCrest Cafe!
A change for the 22-23 school year is there is no more Second Chance Breakfast available during recess. If your child wants breakfast it is available starting at 7:40.
Masking in schools is optional for students, staff, and families. According to the very latest CDPH guidance for schools, indoor masking in K-12 school settings continues to be a strong recommendation, but not required. If you or your child is displaying symptoms or tests positive, please stay home and notify Lake immediately.
Please keep Lake safe and before the first day - come by the office and pick up a free test.
Any positive test results should be reported to Lake. And, if your student is experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, we ask that you keep them home. The most common COVID-19 symptoms include fever, cough, congestion, sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Each COVID-19 at-home test kit comes with two testing cartridges. Families are asked to use the second at-home antigen test on Sunday, August 21st to ensure that students who may have been exposed to someone during the first days of school remain home. Again, we ask that all positive COVID-19 results be reported to your school.
