The Copeland PTO Newsletter - October 18, 2019
President’s Corner By Amanda Ball
I want to thank everyone that has volunteered and supported Copeland Elementary so far this year. We do a lot of things for our Colts and we truly couldn’t do them without your help.
Who is ready to put in their order for Texas Roadhouse Holiday Rolls??? We are selling the famous Texas Roadhouse rolls, peanuts, cinnamon butter, and Texas Roadhouse gift cards. Check your student’s backpacks, because they brought home all the information on Wednesday. The packet included instructions, an order form, and vouchers to give to customers. If you need more order forms or vouchers you can print them from our website, CopelandPTO.org, or get some from the front office.
Field Days are next week! I hope everyone can come out to cheer on your favorite class! All the field day details are below. We also have our upcoming Father/Daughter dance on November 2nd. Flyers will be coming home today, but if you can’t wait you can print it from our website, CopelandPTO.org, and it’s under the fundraising tab. We also have Colonial Day for 5th grade on November 22nd and we have found all the station leaders, but will still need several volunteers to make this a success. You do not have to be a 5th grade parent to volunteer. If you are interested, please let me know.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding PTO, please feel free to contact me at copelandptopresident@gmail.com.

Volunteer Opportunities
We are still in need of a Homeroom Coordinator for Mrs. Caro’s 2nd grade class and Mrs. Tanguay’s 5th grade class. If your child is in one of these classes and you are interested in volunteering to be HRC, please email CopelandPTOVIPS@gmail.com. The VIPS Coordinator will get you connected with your class. Throughout the year, your HRC will keep you informed of class parties, school events, volunteer opportunities and much more. If you haven’t received any emails from your HRC, please ask the teacher or the VIPS Coordinator, for your HRC’s contact information and reach out to the HRC to ensure she has your email address.

Volunteer of the Month
Stephanie Mueller!! Congratulation Stephanie! Thank you for all the hours you have volunteered (and logged) in the month of September. We appreciate everything you do for Copeland Elementary. Enjoy your RESERVED parking spot up front! It is our way of thanking you for your hard-work at Copeland.
Who will it be next month? Log your hours now!
Colonial Day is Coming in November
We will need many adult volunteers to make this event happen. In the next few weeks be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities. We are currently getting head chairs for each station. Once we do, we will have a sign-up genius sent out requesting help for each station. You can volunteer for a few hours or all day. Parents will only be able to attend Colonial Day if they are volunteering. If you can't volunteer, another way parents can help is donating items needed for each station. Start getting costumes!! The kids learn a lot and have so much fun.
There are also many volunteer opportunities for parents wishing to lead Science demos for all grades. Below are the links for all grade level trainings coming up this semester.
The Garden by Tracy Reynolds
Do you like to garden or want to learn more about the garden? The garden needs a co-chair. If this sounds like fun contact Amanda Ball at copelandptopresident@gmail.com.
The 3rd graders owe a big THANK YOU to Yunuen Rivera and Yelena Bolotina, they helped pull weeds on October 15. The 3rd grade needed the vegetable beds cleared to be able to plant their winter crops. They also harvested the sweet potatoes the current 4th graders planted last year. Ask your child what was their favorite crop they planted.
The next garden date is October 29. On garden days, have your kids wear clothes that can get dirty. The 3rd graders are responsible for maintaining and planting the garden. The garden will need parents to be willing to water on the weekends and during the week. If you can help, please email tracy.b.reynolds@gmail.com.

Logging in as a Volunteer
Working for our kids as a volunteer is both rewarding and important. Please log your volunteer hours in our Raptor Portal.
CFISD has provided an online program to make it easier on volunteers to log and track their
volunteer hours. This program is called Raptor, which is part of the V-Soft security software
that helps keep our schools safe.
Copeland does not have logbooks in the front office to record your hours. So, in order to
log your hours, you will need to establish a raptor account. This is quite easy and will allow
you to log your hours at home.
The steps to register online are as follows:
1. Go to https://www.cfisd.net/en/community-involvement/community-engagement/volunteer/# or click on the "New to Raptor" button below.
2. Complete this form in its entirety and submit (you must have an email address to do this)
3. You will receive an email from support@raptorware.com with your account information and password.
4. Once you receive the email use the button below to log in to your account.
5. Add this website to your favorites (this is where you will log hours)
6. Log in with email and password
7. Select campus
8. Select the tabs you will need
This program will be used to determine volunteer of the month and reporting our total volunteer hours to the district, enabling them to apply for various grants and programs.
