COLA Outdoor Benches

Erin Payne - Girl Scout Gold Award Project

To Begin...

For those who do not know, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award that a high school age Girl Scout can earn. To fulfill the initial requirements of the project, Erin Payne had to complete the Girl Scout Silver Award and Senior Journey project with her troop. Once those steps were completed, she started to plan and implement her individual "Take Action" project of at least 80 hours that would provide a sustainable lasting benefit to her community at large.

Choosing the Project...

When Erin began her project, she decided she wanted to use her STEM skills and knowledge of basic construction to build some type of engineering project for her church or school. She was able to identify that her former middle school, Coppell Middle School North, needed some type of permanent seating for their campus outdoor learning area (COLA). She then received approval from CISD to construct four new benches for the area.

She has now completed the construction of the four wooden benches, and has installed them on the campus of Coppell Middle School North for students to use in the upcoming school year.
