Different Types Of Hieroglyphics

There is different types of hieroglyphics. There was hieratic, "a cursive form of hieroglyphics with less complicated and connected signs." Scribes used it to write documents and letters because it was a faster way of writing. It was always wrote right-to-left. There was also demotic, "It was an abbreviated script with signs that did not look like the corresponding hieroglyphs." It was developed around 660 B.C. it was a even faster way of writing then hieratic. The last type is coptic it was made up of only 30 signs most were Greek.

The Way Hieroglyphics Were Used

Egyptians used hieroglyphics to paint inscriptions on buildings. They also used them to write sacred books. Egyptians used hieroglyphics to write on pottery. They were also used to express sounds and ideas. "To describe decorative characters carved on monuments."

Other Forms Created

The Egyptians made multiple forms of writing. Demotic was one of the forms of writing they made. They also created hieratic. Hieratic was a cursive form of hieroglyphics. Later, another form of writing was created called coptic.

How We Are Affected Today

Hieroglyphics is how we were able to learn about Ancient Egyptians. We learned about their culture with this. The way they lived. We also learned how they rose to power. We learned about the dynasties.
