St. Jerome School Weekly Newsletter

“Joy, with peace, is the sister of charity. Serve the Lord with laughter.”
St. Padre Pio
From Mr. Merrick
Dear St. Jerome Families,
I hope that you are all having a great start to the week. As we get closer to Easter Break, I pray that your Lent has been going well. Our schedule for Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday this weekend, is posted below.
Tomorrow will be a St. Jerome Spirit wear day; donations will go to help us fundraise for the TruMark Kiss a Pig contest. The money we raise will be matched and returned to St. Jerome School to help purchase classroom technology items with an eye toward promoting financial literacy. Thank you for your support!
We had a successful school play on the new stage, and the hall is just about complete. There are a few finishing touches being put on over the next two weeks (mostly running wiring for air conditioning in the hall and the second floor of the St. Joseph Building). The students (1st-8th) will be able to return to eating lunch down there on Monday, April 25th.
The 5th-8th grade students submitted their Science Fair Projects today and set them up in the hall. Our school community is welcome to view the projects next Monday (3:00 PM-5:00 PM) or Tuesday (5:00 PM-7:00 PM).
We are well on our way to reaching our Race for Education goal with 4,000 raised so far! Please see below on how you can help by sharing the donation links. Donations can be made by PayPal or credit card, Venmo (@sjsphila), cash, or check.
Last Thursday, Fr. Reilly celebrated our March School Liturgy; Miss Labovitz’s 2nd graders did a great job serving as our readers and gift bearers. Please keep our second graders in your prayers as they prepare for their First Holy Communion in May.
Following the Mass, we recognized our Students of the Month for March; these students were recognized for living the virtue of temperance: Louis Wang, Lorenzo Pavese, Liam Gallagher, Abigail Heisley, Cole Monaco, Grace Keenan, Damian Hancock, Colton Knecht, Matthew Ries, Jr., Sophia Steffon, Ian Bonner, Amelia Brown, Jack Burns, Teaghan Adams, Dominic Macrina, Emma Hand, Liam Plattowski, Ariela Profka, Richard McKay, Jamie O’Donnell, Jake Printz. For the month of April, we will be working on living the virtue of obedience (Saying “yes” to the loving will of God and those He has set over us).
Adrian Manzur will be representing our school in the Religion Bee Finals at the Shrine of St. John Neumann on Friday. Mrs. Z and I will be traveling there to cheer him on, and his classmates will be following along on the live-stream. Please keep Adrian in your prayers as he prepares for the big day!
I will be at a meeting tomorrow afternoon, off-site, for our Middle States re-accreditation and St. Lucy School.
All are invited to our Easter Egg Hunt next Tuesday! Please see the details below. We could use some more candy if anyone is able to send some in this week.
Have a great rest of the week; St. Jerome, pray for us!
Race for Education 2022
With your support and generosity, we hope to raise $20,000! All monies raised directly benefit the children of St. Jerome. We are proud of the improvements that have recently been made to our programs and facilities.
The Race is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26th at 10:00 AM. (Raindate is Friday, 4/29) Our students and faculty will walk a designated route through the Winchester Park neighborhood. Neighbors are encouraged to decorate windows and front yards with messages of encouragement for our walkers. The students will be permitted to wear the school gym uniform that day. More information including the route map will be sent to the parents at a date closer to the event.
Here’s how you can help:
Each family is also asked to post the donation St. Jerome School Race for Education link to your social media accounts. You can share the link directly from our school Facebook page “Saint Jerome School.” For those who prefer a paper flyer to distribute to family members, a PDF of the pledge request can be obtained on our school website: https://sjsphila.org/race-for-education.
The suggested fundraising goal per student is $100. Working together we achieve more! We kindly ask that all donations be submitted by Monday, April 25th so that our totals can be tallied.
