Who was Shakespeare...
- Between 1582 and 1592, no one knows how Shakespeare earned money. It is believed that he was a schoolteacher or h traveled around with an acting group. By 1592 it is clear that he was a writer and actor in London (Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia).
- The devastation of the black plague was happening in London from 1592-1594. For the prevention of the disease spreading, most of the public places were closed, including theaters. Shakespeare wrote narrative plays and sonnets during that time since there could be no performances (Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia).
- "By 1598 he was involved with the business side of theater as well. He received part of the profits from the Globe Theater and became fairly wealthy" (Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia).
Shakespeare's relevance to today...
I believe that Shakespeare should still be read today because it has some relevance to our lives now. His categories that he wrote about are still being written about today. He wrote about some things that are not relevant to our time but overall his themes to his plays are relatable to our life. “Shakespeare’s histories are dramas about the lives of some of England’s powerful kings, including Henry IV and Richard II” (Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia).
