  • Mrs. Brzozka, Emerging Bilingual Program
  • Mrs. Gallagher, Special Education
  • Mrs. Johnson, Special Education
  • Mrs. O'Hara, LMC

Hat Day, November 21

We look forward to seeing our students and staff donning their favorite hats this Thursday, November 21! We also love to encourage our students' innovation and creativity, so they are welcome to design and create their own hats to wear to school on Hat Day, too!

Fall Break, November 25 - 29

We wish you and your families a relaxing and enjoyable Fall Break! There will be no school November 25 - 29. School will resume on Monday, December 2. It's hard to believe the month of December is already upon us!

Lunchroom Behavior Incentives

Lunchtime is a special time at Dryden for students to enjoy each other and their lunch. Students follow the Dolphin Do's: Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Caring and are frequently reminded of the following four expectations:

  1. Sit at their assigned table.
  2. Do not walk around.
  3. Clean up.
  4. Be quiet when supervisors are giving directions.

Students earn "dolphins" for following these expectations. After earning four dolphins, primary students watch a G-rated movie and 4th and 5th graders recently chose open seating as their incentive instead of a movie. Beginning Monday, November 18, students will sit by class and earn open seating on Fridays. Please contact Assistant Principal Mrs. Beane at sbeane@sd25.org if you have any questions. Thank you!

Current Parent Contact Information

With the winter fast approaching, this is a good time to make sure our school has your most current contact information in case of any emergency school closings. Please notify our school office by calling 847-398-4280 or emailing Administrative Assistant Dianne Sprenger at dsprenger@sd25.org if you ever have changes in your phone numbers or email addresses. We will update this information in our system so that you can be promptly notified of any school closings or other emergencies. Thank you!

5Essentials Parent Survey

Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at Dryden and help guide our improvement efforts. In order for the survey report to be generated, we need at least 20 percent of our parents to take the survey. While the parent data will not be made public, the parent report will be made available to the principal and district administration team and will enable us to make considerations based on the parent responses. Your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. The window for the parent portion of the survey is October 24 - February 14. Please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ to take the parent survey. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact 5Essentials Customer Support at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.

Upcoming Assessments

During the month of December, students in kindergarten through 5th grade will participate in FastBridge assessments. FastBridge assessments measure reading and math skills. These assessments help teachers gain insight into your student’s grade-level readiness in these content areas. The results of these assessments are used to aid in instructional planning and evaluate student progress throughout the year. Please look for communication from your child's classroom teacher regarding specific FastBridge assessment dates.

Additionally in December, students in grades 2 - 5 at Dryden will participate in NWEA MAP reading and math assessment. The computerized format of MAP is an adaptive test and aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards. You may find additional information about MAP testing at the Northwest Evaluation Association’s website - http://www.nwea.org/. Classroom teachers will inform parents of the specific dates their classes will be completing the MAP assessments.

Information about these and other district assessments can be found on the district website or by clicking here.

Multi-Age & Second Grade Musical, November 21

Wouldn't it be nice to sit back and enjoy your child's musical performance at Dryden? That's how we feel it should be. The 2nd Grade & Multi-Age Musical is coming up, and they need a few NOT 2nd Grade & Multi-Age parents to help out the night of the musical, so the 2nd Grade & Multi-Age families can sit back and enjoy the show. We still have the front row seat job open - the Sound System - it's super easy to work, and if you fulfill the time slots, you will get a front row seat to your child's musical. Check out the Sign-Up to see where you can help. Thank you to all who have signed up for the Musicals this year. We could not do this without you! And a huge shout out to the Kindergarten moms who came out and helped the night of the 1st Grade Musical, Thank You!

Please contact Nikki mathfam4@gmail.com or Michelle mjcastaneda16@gmail.com with any questions.

ABC25 Membership: Be a Part of Something Great!

Ever wonder where those Osmos, BeeBots, Maker carts and Lego Walls came from ...grants made possible by the ABC/25 Foundation!

The ABC/25 Foundation is a non-for-profit organization founded by a group of caring parents to give A Better Community for District 25 by fostering innovation, creativity and excellence in our schools. Over the past 24 years, the Foundation has raised and contributed over one million dollars to fund numerous projects and grants for District 25 which directly impact students and teachers!

Are you a member of the ABC/25 Foundation? If not, you're missing out on an amazing way to support the D25 schools! Proceeds from the $40 family memberships go directly to fund grants that allow D25 teachers and staff to access tools and resources that aren't available through curriculum budgets. Learn more about the wonderful things ABC/25 is doing in our community at www.abc25.org and become a member here!
