Spirit Night at Hat Creek

Thank you to everyone who participated in our January Spirit Night hosted by Hat Creek this week! Stay tuned for future updates about our next event.

APH Virus and Vaccine Updates

We continue to meet weekly with Austin Public Health (APH) to discuss school operations during the pandemic and to make adaptations as needed. APH requests our community’s support in reducing the spread of the virus in Austin by wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and practicing good hygiene. With continued community efforts, we can help to bring Austin-Travis County out of stage 5. We also continue to discuss the availability of vaccines to schools and the broader community. At this time, Austin is still only vaccinating individuals in Phases 1A and 1B and we hope to have word soon when educators will be included in vaccine rollout plans.

Report Cards Disseminated - Fri., 01/15

This evening, you will receive an email with the link to your child's Semester 1 Academic Report. Please remember that the link will only be active for 14 days, so you will need to print or save a copy of the report for your records before January 29, 2021. Once you have read your child's academic report, you can feel free to reach out to the teaching team directly with any questions you have regarding their academic growth and progress. Thank you again for all the support you have shown AIS this year. We are looking forward to another great Semester!

10th Annual Gala Tickets on Sale-1/16 thru 2/6/21

We are moving our annual celebration online this year and look forward to celebrating virtually as a community on February 20, 2021 beginning at 6:30 pm. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon on our site here. (Our site will not be finalized until tomorrow). The gala will include a silent auction filled with amazing experiences and swag. This year, our live auction will include great vacation packages, and our raise the paddle donation portion supports scholarship funding for our faculty's children.

We have some great sponsorship benefits including charcuterie platters with homemade jams, crackers, and bread; bottles of wine; and warm Tiff's Treats to enjoy from home while participating in our program! Plus, we will have a mixology demonstration to go along with our Gala signature cocktail kit, music, and more! This year, alumni and friends and family members across the country or globe can also join in through our Friends of AIS ticket, so spread the word.

MLK Day/No School-Mon., 1/18

AIS will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday to honor him and his legacy of nonviolent activism and civil rights. We will see you back at school on Tuesday.

Bourse Packets Available

French nationals interested in Bourse scholarships for the 21-22 school year may reach out to Mathilde to pick up a packet beginning on Tuesday. The final submission deadline is 2/19 to return completed forms back to AIS for submission.

Planned Fire Drill

With the support of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, we have worked to redesign our fire drill procedures so that they respect COVID protocols and also allow our students to evacuate the building quickly and safely in the event of an emergency. Next week, we will be holding a fire drill to practice these routines. Please remind your children about the importance of fire drills and preparedness, particularly keeping quiet as they exit the building so that they can hear and quickly follow the instructions of adults on duty. This is also a good opportunity to remind your children about keeping a safe distance while exiting the building and lining up for our fire drill. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these messages!

Gala Wine Collection - 1/25 thru 1/29

As part of our gala each year, we ask our families who would like to participate to donate 1 bottle of wine for each AIS student to bundle in classroom wine packages. These amazing wine cellars will be auctioned off in our silent auction. We will begin collecting at morning drive through the week of January 25th.

  • Pick your favorite bottle of wine or bubbly
  • Sign the bottle with a sharpie to include your family name, class, and if you would like, a dedication. Ex: "Cheers! From the Johnson Family-5e"
  • Pass the bottle off at morning drop-off the week of 1/25 to 1/29
  • Bid away on remarkable wine cellars during our virtual gala!
  • Winners will be able to pick up the wine from campus the last week in February.

AIS Board of Directors Meeting- Tue., 1/26

The AIS governing board of directors will meet on Tuesday 1/26. The community is invited to join during the Open Session of the meeting. Participation during the board meetings is reserved for members of the board and administrative staff, however, there is a public comment section at the conclusion of the open sessions for any community feedback from visiting guests.

Un Grand Merci à l’État Français !

We are pleased to announce that in light of the COVID-19 health crisis that has significantly impacted schools around the world, Austin International School has been awarded a grant of over $22,500 by the French Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs. Through our accreditation (homologation), we are fortunate to be able to count of this type of support from our international accrediting body. With unprecedented levels of expenses related to facility modifications, we are very thankful that the French Republic has helped cover a portion of these additional costs this year.
