American Math Contest (AMC) 8
The American Math Contest (AMC 8) will be held from 9:15-10:15am on Tuesday, November 13th. The AMC 8 is a nationally recognized mathematics contest for those students who are interested in mathematics. It covers all content through Geometry. If any student is interested please talk to your current Math teacher about taking a practice test. Math teachers will make recommendations to Mr. Norse for the final list of students who will take it.
Unfortunately, Stoller has only 200 spots for the entire school which means that everyone can't take it officially. If a student can't take it officially, they can still take it unofficially to see how they do.
If you have any specific questions, please email Mr. Norse directly.
Westview Band Recruitment Night
For any 8th Graders going to Westview next year that are interested in band, please see the Westview Band Night Flyer for details about a special recruitment night at Westview High School. Any questions contact Greg Hall.
Maker Space
What is a Maker Space? The PTO has been using these words when we talk about the projects we want to fund for the 2018-2019 School Year. It is more than a SPACE, it is a WAY OF THINKING. The attached video is a great introduction to the Maker Space concept. The PTO is hoping to make a large contribution to the Maker Space program so that it can impact the entire school instead of just a small group of students.

Last Reminder...
$50 for 50 Update
The $50 for 50 fundraising campaign officially ends on October 26th and we are still over $35,000 short of our goal of raising $50,000 to support Stoller Middle School. A big THANK YOU goes out to the 270 families that have already donated to the PTO. That means there are still almost 1000 families that have not donated. Not only do programs such as Art Literacy, Renaissance Faire, and Art Night count on financial support from the PTO, we also want to contribute to the much-needed building improvements and new student focused programs.
Today your student is bringing home a letter and envelope from the PTO as a final attempt to collect donations toward the $50 for 50 campaign. Please consider donating any amount your family is able. For information on the programs Stoller PTO sponsors, please visit StollerPTO.com and click on the “What We Want To Do” tab.
Thanks for your support!

Talented and Gifted (TAG)
Every year all students are considered for identification as Talented and Gifted in the Beaverton School District. District policy defines gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.
If you think your child might exhibit qualities that typically are used to describe giftedness, you may wish to complete a Parent Information Form which can also be picked up from the main office. Completing this form does not guarantee that your child will be tested; it gives the TAG committee additional information in the nomination process. Please note the deadline for TAG parent nomination is Wednesday, October 31st.
Learning Options
The application timeline has changed for the 2019-2020 school year. The lottery application phase has been shortened to make Second Consideration applications available earlier. This will allow students more time to work on their applications and schools more time to review them.
The Beaverton School District is nationally recognized for high student achievement and innovative programs. Beaverton students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to investigate learning options that best fit their academic needs. Students can choose their neighborhood school or apply for one of a number of learning options. Transportation is provided.
Applications for the 2019-2020 are now available. Please plan to attend one or more of the open houses that are available. Students may only select one option on their application, so do some early investigation of the options online.
All applicants must reside within the Beaverton School District boundaries. Beginning October 15, current Beaverton School District students are able to apply online using their student ID. Resident students not currently attending a Beaverton school, or who do not have Internet access, will need to complete a paper application (spanish paper application) available online, or at any school office beginning October 15, 2018. Please give careful consideration to your choice of school. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed.
Applications must be received no later than Friday, December 7, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. (PST).
