News & Notes for East Middle Faculty and Staff
Rest is on the way! YAY! But, first...
- This is not the best week for students be working in hallways on self paced work. Supervision is critical this week as excitement for the break makes for distractible kiddos. Students need accountability, so please, keep students in classrooms to work on your assignments or in one of the collaboration spaces WITH AN ADULT. Bring it to my attention if you have students doing project based learning (like photography) and let's be intentional about planning where they can work and for how long.
- Formative assessment can be your best friend this week. If students know the learning target and success criteria and can count on a quick accountability task at the end of class, they will tend to stay on task better for you. It will not hurt students one bit to have a quick couple of questions to answer about their learning at the end of class. BRING THESE TO DATA TEAMS THIS WEEK.
- A note about calling the principal to address a student in your class. Immediately, this makes admin the boss and diminishes your credibility in student eyes. Use this support sparingly and know the goal is to have a coaching conversation with the student and return him or her to the classroom ASAP. Do not send students to the office- this is not the protocol for any team's behavior plan and there may not be an admin to check in with the student right away.
- Make learning fun and worthwhile this week!
