ESF Marathon and Carnival
Congratulations to all the Glenealy families who ran at the ESF marathon last Sunday. It was a wonderful celebration and it was superb to see so many of you enjoying the run with each other! Thanks for supporting the ESF 50th celebrations.
Council of International Schools (CIS)
Next week from Tuesday to Friday we will have two visitors in the school as part of our CIS Preparatory Evaluation Visit. The visit focuses on exploring how our school demonstrates a commitment to high quality international education and how we ensure the school is continually improving and keeping up with leading international education standards.
The visitors will spend time in classrooms viewing learning and teaching, they will hold focus interviews on each of the standards with school staff and will also meet with a number of other stakeholders. If you see the visitors in the school please make them feel welcome. We will share feedback with you when the preparatory report is completed.
Professional Development Feedback
Staff thoroughly enjoyed our ESF Professional Development Day (CPD) last Friday. The focus was on ensuring wellbeing for our students and ourselves. Our guest speaker for the Primary section was Dr Lea Waters from Melbourne University. Lea is a qualified organisational psychologist and has worked across business, not-for-profit, welfare, retail, education, local Government and health sectors. Her messages to us were powerful and relevant and she provided thorough research to highlight that a student's positive well being significantly affects academic attainment and progress. Whilst this is probably not a surprise to any of us it does highlight how important it is for us all to know our strengths and be proud of who we are and have a healthy self esteem. It also highlights how important wellbeing programmes are in schools and more importantly how we communicate these programmes and strategies with parents, so we can all work together on this.
Here’s the reading for this week which reinforces our learning and well-being philosophies and gives parents insight as to what you can do at home to reinforce these same things. I have linked you to Lea Waters website this week. There is a highly recommended book for parents that you may like to purchase. You may also like to view this TED talk of hers. Being positive is not for the faint hearted!
Enjoy this wonderful weather!
Regards
Brenda

Glenealy Top Tech Tip
Coding!
For children in today's world, learning and understanding coding is fast becoming equally important as learning math and reading. Coding allows children to be creative, it drives their innovation and it is a great confidence builder too. Learning to code is similar learning a second language.
If you want to learn more about this language of the future visit our Glenealy Globe Library Page! Code.org, Scratch and Kodable are 3 websites to get you started!

We’ll be collecting donations of 2nd Hand Books the week of the Fair – please see next week’s newsletter for collection details. The PTA also welcomes donations of new goods for sale. Please contact Erika on pta@glenealy.net with a brief description of the items to be donated.
Box of Hope
Glenealy School participates in the Box of Hope each year, it is a worthwhile and meaningful way for the students to give back in order to make a positive difference to another child's life.
To create a Box of Hope, children put toys, games, toiletry items such as toothpaste & a toothbrush, combs, hair-brushes, soap and stationery items (no liquids or food items) into an empty cardboard box (e.g. a shoe box).
The box is then wrapped in colourful paper and the completed Box of Hope sticker the children will bring home from school is stuck to the box. You can also wrap your box in house colours too!
Please do not seal the box - the organisers need to be able to check the contents before they are sent off.
All boxes must be brought to the school office between November 6th - 10th.
Thank you for your support of this worthwhile event.
