Principal Post
In anticipation of having students return to in-person learning on January 4th (Group A), the plan at this time is to have students return following their first trimester schedule (Group A, Group B, or fully remote). If parents want to make any changes to this schedule please email Mr. Dwyer directly at mdwyer@sd13.org. For example, if your child was a fully remote learner during the first trimester and you would like to "opt in" for in-person learning send an email requesting this change. If your child was an in-person learner and you would like to "opt out" for the second semester send an email with this information.
Dr. Bartelt's email from December 16th included the following details...
Beginning after the federal holiday commemorating Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Wednesdays will either reflect a day of in-person instruction for the "A" or "B" groups of students whose parents have elected to send their children to the school sites. If your family chose the full remote option, this will not change anything for you and your child's schedule will remain the same.
Please be advised that students returning to school on the 4th will be learning in the manner that was last presented in November. The changes mentioned above do not go into effect until Tuesday, January 19. Click here to view the revised schedule. This is to help parents engage with their children(s) school(s) to have their questions answered and to set up learning spaces to accommodate the students whose families indicated they prefer in-person instruction (with modifications).
This means that in-person kindergarten students will return five days a week beginning Tuesday, January 19th.
Finally, I would like to share that messages will be sent by me to you on Tuesday, December 22nd and 29th to provide updates. The District is planning for the return of students on January 4, but should health metrics spike to unforeseen levels, there is a possibility that the continuation of an adaptive pause could be used beginning that day. Parents would be notified no later than Tuesday, December 29th should that be the case.
Students will begin their winter vacation Monday, December 21st through Friday, January 1st. School will resume with in-person learning (Group A) on Monday, January 4th .
The best to you and your family as you celebrate the holidays! Stay safe and well this winter break. Here's to a prosperous and healthy new year!! We look forward to seeing Group A students back at school on January 4th, 2021!

MINDFULNESS in 2021
At a time when we can't connect face to face with others, I choose to reconnect with myself. Earlier this month, I was given a simple set of instructions surrounding leadership. I was instructed to be generous with myself as much as I was generous with others. It got me thinking. What makes me happy? What can I do for myself that allows me to exercise mindfulness? Well friends, I've found it and it was FREE!
For the past few months, my first grade son and I have sat down to read. Each time, reminding me that "it's not my thing, Mom!" However, in these last two weeks, I've chosen to find my most favorite children's books and read to him. What's even greater here is that my 13 year old has brought in her favorite books to share as well. The greatest gift at this time of uncertainty has been this opportunity to share and enjoy what was always there. To find what made me smile as a child and to share it with my world, my kids.
As you enter into the break, I encourage you to take a moment to find what fulfills YOU. Revisit the traditions of your childhood that made YOU happy. In 2021, I challenge us all to maintain mindfulness. In this community, there is no greater joy than to be surrounded by each other, however, this pandemic is calling us to pause. I was reminded today that to be the reason someone smiles is to simply laugh and reconnect with what fulfills my own self. Best wishes and good luck!
