Welcome to the ResOps Team!
Dear Tara, Ali, Nate and Brandy,
Welcome to the Residential Operations (“ResOps”) Team for what is sure to be an exciting and fulfilling summer! My name is Kristy Jones, and I am the Director of Residential Operations (DRO) for the Philly Institute! I will be working with you throughout to summer as your manager for our amazing team! I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself.
I am a 2014 Los Angeles Corps member, and I currently teach 8th grade history at View Park Middle School in South Central LA. At my school, I am a teacher leader, which means that I lead an incredible team of teachers toward making sure that our kids are achieving, and receiving an equitable education. My students drive me and motivate me to make sure that I am striving to be my best every day. They are incredible young individuals that have equally incredible aspirations that I know they can achieve!
I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with all of you to make this summer a great experience for our incoming corps members, and in turn, our students in Philly and Camden. The work you will do this summer is so important, and you have the ability to truly contribute to the movement toward educational equity. This is my second summer working at institute (I was a School Operations Manager last year) and I left feeling inspired and accomplished, but also driven to continue this work. I know many of you will walk away from this experience with the same sense.
The work that you will do this summer will have a direct impact on hundreds of staff and corps members, but also, students. When our staff and corps members have less to worry about with logistics, they can focus their passions and energies on creating change and building learning momentum within their classrooms, and developing into path-changing teachers that our students deserve.
We’ll be getting to know each other much more in the upcoming weeks and months, but to give you a better sense of our current trajectory – you will start your preparation for this summer in the spring through both individual and team calls. Here, we will start learning each other’s strengths and interests, as well as developing an understanding of the responsibilities, roles, and vision for our team. You will have the opportunity to take part in training, as well as have your questions and concerns addressed.
I have highlighted a few upcoming actions steps that you all will take to being our work together, and what promises to be an amazing summer. Please note that some of the action steps have deadlines that are very soon. Thank you for your anticipated hard work and dedication!
