From the Principal
Dear Thornhill Community,
I was very much looking forward to our MLK Jr. Oratorical Assembly and Black History Celebration. Our kids have been working so hard to prepare for this assembly. As you know, it was scheduled for this Friday February 22, but due to the potential strike this week, we will be rescheduling. We will notify you of our new date once we land on one. In the meantime, below is a picture of the program we will have.
The Auction is March 2nd! I hope to see as many of you as possible there. This Friday is the last day to buy tickets.
Oakland principals support teachers but call for more state and local funds
Here is an article in EdSource about principals supporting our teachers.
Time's Almost Up, Buy Your Auction Tickets Now! [Auction is on Saturday, March 2]
This is the LAST and FINAL week to buy your Auction tickets! Final headcount is due to the venue on Friday, February 22! Remember this is Thornhill’s BIGGEST FUN-draiser!
There will be NO TICKET SALES at the door.
If you purchased tickets, please CHECK-IN and VAULT your credit card (look for an email from “Auction Administrator”). By doing this early you will be AVOIDING THE LINES and helping our AMAZING VOLUNTEERS at the end of auction night.
Current standings for Auction ticket sales are:
Steimle 65% - IN THE LEAD
Van Ostrand 32%
The class with the most parents in attendance will win a free pizza/lunch party, complete with fruit and a drink! (If your child has dietary restrictions, we will work with you to provide appropriate food.)
PLUS: $500 FOR YOUR TEACHER TO USE FOR HIS/HER CLASSROOM!
Also, keep a watch on our auction catalog and get excited to bid on these items at the auction! New items are continually being added.
We hope to see you there!

Author Visit Success!
Thank you to everyone who came out to welcome author Sally Bolger last Tuesday! She shared her beautiful book, Fun in the Mud, with many students in the morning before school, and had class visits with the first and fifth graders. They learned about the restoration of the Giacomini wetlands in Point Reyes, and about the amazing wildlife that has returned as a result. It was a wonderful opportunity for our Thornhill students to connect with an author and a local conservationist!
We were able to raise $309.80 dollars for Thornhill—supporting both the 5th grade Marin Headlands trip and new books for the library! Many thanks to all for your support.
Marie Fox, Librarian and Angela Engel, Parent of 5th and 1st grader
