IMPORTANT PRESCHOOL HEALTH & SAFETY REMINDERS ***URGENT - PLEASE READ***
Dear St. Michael Preschool Families,
Unfortunately, the number of COVID cases in our area and across the state continue to skyrocket. Keeping our classrooms COVID-free and in-person is our focus!
We continue to remain vigilant with our COVID protocols including daily student symptom screenings upon arrival, monitoring of student health throughout the school day, and daily cleaning and disinfecting of our classrooms and preschool.
Before bringing your child to school, we urge you to do the same with daily monitoring of your family's health and symptom checks. Your child should not be at the preschool if they are unwell or experiencing any symptoms.
Exclusionary symptoms now include:
• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
It is very important to remember that if your child or ANYONE in your household is not feeling well, experiencing any COVID symptoms, or awaiting COVID test results, your child MUST stay home.
Although the CDC has released updated guidance on quarantine and isolation time, St. Michael Preschool must follow the Wake County Health Department’s requirements for preschool and childcare settings (different protocols than K-12 schools). Currently, for young children in childcare, including preschools and daycares, the isolation time remains 10 days for a positive case. The quarantine time for exposure ranges from 14 days to 24 days (the longer time is for a positive case within the household).
If your child is sick, and you would like for the St. Michael School nurses to conduct a COVID test, they would be happy to coordinate a time for you to bring your child to campus. Simply contact them at nursegroup@stmcary.org or call 919-468-6156.
In the event your child's class has to close due to quarantine or an inability to staff the class, you will be provided suggestions for at-home learning activities. In addition, a Zoom Circle Time will be scheduled, 1-2 days per week, depending on the preschool program your child is in. Please understand that virtual learning for preschoolers has its limitations and is not age-appropriate for an extended timeframe. However, we remain committed to supporting the children's social and emotional well-being and recognize that staying connected with their class through some face-to-face time holds great value. A Zoom invitation will be sent through Realm and/or email, if it becomes necessary.
Thank you for maintaining open and timely communication regarding the health of your household so that we may keep our entire St. Michael community safe! The teachers and I appreciate your understanding, support, and prayers.
In Christ,
Lisa Ciesla, Director

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
Closings and Delays: Our policy is to assess conditions on St. Michael Campus and the local area to determine closings or delays at the preschool. We understand this may not always reflect weather conditions in your area or follow the Wake County School closings or delays, so please use your discretion when bringing your child to school.
Parents will be informed of school closings and delays via our all call communication system through the primary phone, text message, and email provided. If this information needs to be updated at this time, please let the preschool office know.
On delayed openings, Early Arrival and Lunch Programs are canceled and children bring a lunch and attend from 11:00-1:00 pm. This later dismissal time may interfere with younger children’s nap schedules, so again, please use your best judgment in sending your preschooler on these days.
