Principal's Update
Scappoose Students, Families, and Staff,
The end of the year is rapidly approaching! There are so many events coming up to showcase Scappoose High School students' hard work and talents! We have a fantastic group of young adults with many interests outside the classroom. Please come and enjoy our theatre performance; see the flyer below. The Senior Award Night is a great event to honor the commitment of this year's class to achieving at a high level despite all the obstacles they have had to overcome. Spring sports are going strong with all of our athletic teams competing and finding success on the links, fields, and track; look at coming to an upcoming sporting event to show support. Have a great week!
Go Indians!

Senior Awards Night!
Athletic Announcements
We survived another week of wet weather but that could not stop our teams from performing at a high level on the courses, track, or fields.
Schedules
Please check out the schedule for next week:
Track: Last Friday the team traveled to McMinnville for the Vic Down Invite against 13 other teams in a great test of our improvement this year. We hosted LaSalle on Wednesday in an NWOC dual meet that produced some more quality performances.
A special thanks to all those who volunteer to help host meets. We appreciate the time commitment you make on our athlete’s behalf.
Golf: Both of our teams were back in action this week as both teams continue to hone their skills and improve during adverse weather conditions. Many shot career-best rounds during last week’s tournaments and the boy's team shot their best ever team score since moving up to 5A at Glendoveer.
Softball: We opened league play with five straight wins and sit tied with Wilsonville on top of the NWOC and find ourselves ranked in the state’s 5A Top 10. We host Parkrose tonight at 5:00PM.
Baseball: We split our first four league games and look to continue to build on our momentum after beating LaSalle in the first of a three-game series. We will travel there tonight and Saturday as we pursue the sweep.
Save the Date: Run for Neil - September 10th, 2022
All proceeds are used to promote whole-body wellness for all students in the Scappoose community.
College Bound Student-Athletes:
- If you are going to be continuing your career, please let Mr. French or Brenda know so we can help celebrate your decision and plan a Spring Scappoose Signing Day in early May.
Safe and Sober News
Parents,
We are 43 days away from our seniors graduating!
Here are a few updates we wanted to share with you.
BABY PICTURES - We have received pictures from about 65 seniors. That is only about 35% of our seniors. We have extended the deadline so that we can get as many seniors represented as possible. As a reminder this is for the slideshow at Baccalaureate. Please send them to SHSgrad2022photos@gmail.com. If possible, please send both photos in the same email and name the photos with your senior's name baby senior. For example, John Doe baby, John Doe senior.
ADOPT A SENIOR – Adopt a Senior went live on Facebook Monday, April 18th. If you haven’t yet gone to the page and checked it out, you can do so by clicking here. You can post info about your senior and a picture for adoption or adopt seniors. This is a great way to show our seniors some love. Please feel free to share the Facebook page with your friends and family.

CAN & BOTTLE DRIVE – Our last Can and Bottle drive for the class of 2022 is coming up on Saturday, May 7th. We could really use more volunteers for the afternoon time slots. Sign up here (We encourage Junior parents to volunteer also to help learn the process, as Class of 2023 takes over in June!) As always, we would love to have you bring down your cans and bottles, every bit helps us to provide some really great activities for our seniors.
JUNIOR PARENTS – Class of 2022 will be handing over the reins to the parents of Class of 2023 in just about 45 days. We invite you to come to our next meeting, Monday, May 16th at 6:30 in the Scappoose Library meeting room. We also would love to have you volunteer at any of our events so that you can be prepared to celebrate your seniors. Please reach out if you are interested in volunteering or learning more. shssafeandsober@gmail.com

Attendance Matters
Attendance really matters! We want your student to be here and on time. So, how many absences are needed for a student to be considered truant?
Exceeding five days absent, either excused and/or unexcused, in a three-month period may be a truancy violation.
Unexcused absences are a child safety issue. Someone should always know where the child is. Oregon state law says an equivalent of four unexcused days in a month may also be a truancy violation.
Days specifically excused by doctor’s notes are excluded from any count. The program is intended to be as flexible as each school wishes. The school staff may take into consideration the student’s school performance when determining necessary intervention.
What happens when a student is sent to truancy?
A truancy officer will visit with the parent or guardian at the student’s home. The officer will evaluate living conditions that could affect attendance and inform parents or guardians of the Oregon Compulsory School Attendance Law 39.010. The officer will give the parent or guardian a compliance notice to sign and return to the school. This initial step often improves student attendance without further contact.
Tardy Policy
Excessive tardies will be turned over to the administration for disciplinary action.
Tardy # 1: three unexcused tardies in any one class in one semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 2: any tardy from any other class in the same semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 3: the next tardy from any class in the same semester. Result is Saturday School.
Unexcused absences will result in In School Suspension.
