Homecoming events
It has been a great start to the new school year! It is hard to believe that we are entering our fourth week of school and homecoming week is already at hand. This week is full of activities and traditions that define our school and American culture.
To highlight the week, we host the homecoming football game under the Friday night lights. In my own biased opinion, we have the most impressive stage for high school football across our great country. Machetanz Field with Pioneer Peak in the background and fall beginning to show its sign in the birch tree line. A truly beautiful fall event. We will host the formidable Soldotna stars. Homecoming royalty will be recognized at halftime. Come out and support the home team. JV kicks off at 4:00pm and Varsity at 7:00pm.
Homecoming week traditions will begin on Wednesday night when the Ladies take to the gridiron in the traditional Powder Puff tournament. First round action will take place on the Machetanz turf at 6:00 pm Wednesday night, with the finals taking stage Thursday night at 6:00pm. The Powder Puff championship will be followed by a bonfire at 7:00. The bonfire will include a DJ and a hotdogs for all in attendance. Weather permitting, the Palmer Fire Department takes great pride in getting the fire and festivities started. The Homecoming dance will cap off the events of the week on Saturday night from 7 to 11 pm.

Stay Connected with Your Students Academics
As a parent it’s easier than ever to stay connected to your student's academic progress. The District's homepage www.matsuk12.us allows access to student progress through the iParent quick link. Our Palmer High web site https://www.matsuk12.us/phs also offers a staff directory that has easy access to teachers’ email addresses. Email is often the most effective way to communicate with teachers during their busy work days.
Our teaching staff is also offering a free app, called Remind, which will give reminder text messages to students and parents. The goal is to improve communication in regards to homework, deadlines, and upcoming test and quiz reminders. The app is free and doesn't require the exchange of cell phone numbers. Inquire with your student about individual class codes to set up the Remind messages.
This Friday will already mark the end of the first grading period for progress report period 1, meaning we are 1/8 of the way through the 2017-18 school year.
