January 2017
Libraries, Literacy and all things Ludibund!
What's happening at the The Colony Public Library? Pokemon Go: Battle Royale - Teen Pokemon players can meet the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 at the Story Time Corner, and the winner each month will receive the Codex Badge. On Friday, January 13th, 2-4 p.m., LISD teens are invited to the Teen Early Release Movie Afternoon.
EdCamp: The website describes its events as, "organic, participant-driven professional learning experiences for educators" and that is so true, plus they are a whole lotta fun. If you've never been to one, you ought to register and check it out. Last time I checked there were only a few dozen spots left.

Library Inventory Results
Also, please help me by always making sure that when you remove materials from the library, you have properly checked them out in your name. This will keep our inventory up to date and show all materials as being accounted for. I really appreciate your help with this matter. In case of a real "book emergency" and you feel that you must grab & go, please send me a photo of the barcode from the back of the book. Thank you!
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
The third Monday of January marks Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday each year. Every year, there are countless celebrations in the metroplex but one in particular stood out to me this year. It is called the MLK Youth Extravaganza at Patty Granville Arts Center. It is at the Garland Branch of the NAACP and will celebrate Dr. MLK's life with young adults reciting poetry, dancing, stepping, and presenting drill team routines. The event is free to the public.

New Years Resolutions
If your resolution is like most people and you would like to work out more, than check out the really cool app called: My Daily Workouts FREE - a Personal Trainer App which includes a Quick Home Workout and Exercise Fitness Routines by Daily Workout Apps, LLC
My new year's resolution is to use the app called 1 Second Everyday: Video Diary. It is a best selling app that is described on iTunes as "a video diary that stitches together videos and photos to document your life's journey". It is an exceptional way to document your memories. The creator of the app, Cesar Kuriyama, explains the importance of the using the app so articulately in the following TED Talk video: goo.gl/jZ1Grb
Googly Eyed for Google's New Chrome Extension!!!!!
I am so thrilled about the following new Chrome Extension: Quick Share Screenshot by the Amazing Alice Keeler
This awesome extension is so incredibly useful! I take screenshots a lot. And this super tech savvy superhero created this slick tool that is going to make my life so much simpler. Just go on over to the Chrome Web Store, grab it, and click on it whenever you need to take a screenshot of an image or an entire page. Then, it will save it to your Google drive and copy it to your clipboard so that you can paste it anywhere. #Lovingit!

If you are as forgetful as me and have as many passwords/usernames to manage as I do, consider using an app to manage them for you. I have been using one for years, and I couldn't live without it. There is a great one called Secrets Touch, and you can store all your usernames and passwords for websites & accounts, etc. It is by Outer Corner, Unipessoal LDA. Find it in the app store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/secrets-touch/id1018350473?mt=8
Another great little app that a friend recently told me about is for parents with iPhones who have children with iPhones. She can remotely shut off her daughter's apps until her daughter has finished all her chores, soooo cool! I wish my kids had iPhones now! Anyway, for those of you who are lucky enough to be in this situation, the app is called OurPact – Parental Control & Screen Time Manager by Eturi Corp.
