Notes from Stonehedge Elementary

Message from Stonehedge Elementary School Principal
Dear Stonehedge Families,
It has been another wonderful week here at Stonehedge. Today was our first buddy day. We have several buddy days throughout the year. We pair older classes with younger classrooms to build school community connections, focus on our P2 traits and complete a community service project. Today, buddies worked on cards for Socktober. Check out the buddy day pictures below. We are wrapping up our One School One Book reading today. It has been very exciting reading together as a school community and we are looking forward to the author visit Tuesday.
A few tips to help our days at Stonehedge go even more smooth. Please encourage your children to keep their treasured items at home! Feelings get hurt when items are lost or regretfully traded. Those items are most safe at home. Also, ice cream is available for purchase in the cafeteria. Ice cream now costs $1.25. Finally, when picking up your child at dismissal please remain in your car. We often need to pull cars forward before your student is brought to your car. Staff members are escorting children to you and it is most helpful for you to be in the car. Thank you for your consideration on these items!
I'd like to give a special shout out to all of our Stonehedge Drivers for Bus Driver Appreciation Week which is October 17th - 21st. Bus drivers are often the beginning and the end of our students school day! We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication they provide to keep students safe while transporting them to and from school. Please encourage your children to express a bit of thanks and gratitude to their drivers next week!
Enjoy the weekend! Thank you for being an important part of our school community.

One School One Book
We hope you have enjoyed reading Because of the Rabbit by Cynthia Lord! Students have been so engaged with the trivia questions, videos, and French lessons!
This week's French words we've learned:
Stone is "pierre"
Brother is "frére"
Sister is "sœur"
Kindness is "la gentillesse"
One School One Book will culminate with a visit from author Cynthia Lord next week! We can't wait to share with you the highlights from her visit.
PARP
The season of PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) continues! Now through October 29th, students are encouraged to share reading with their family, friends, even pets! When they do, they could be rewarded with great prizes! Students should record their reading by filling out the weekly PARP slip that was sent home. Return week 2 slips on Monday, October 17th.
Halloween
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Halloween is almost here and with that, we would like to share the planning and schedule for Monday October 31st. We will be having an outdoor parade, which will be clearly marked for all spectators. If the weather does not cooperate, a decision will be made that morning to have an indoor parade in which spectators would not be permitted. Those who are coming just to view the parade will not need to sign in. The parade will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. with classroom parties to follow.
A few reminders and guidelines will ensure the safety and well-being of all, and make this enjoyable for everyone who participates.
- Please send your child to school in costume.
- All scary, bloody masks, weapons, spears or other dangerous accessories must remain at home. Please respect that our youngest students can be frightened easily and we want all participants to have an enjoyable experience.
- We ask that all those who are attending the parade and would like to participate by dressing up to avoid wearing masks of any kind.
Positivity Project
Next week's P2 focus will be Integrity.
Cold Weather Outerwear
The cooler weather is upon us! Please keep in mind that our students will continue to go outside for recess. If the temperature is 20 degrees Fahrenheit or above, recess can take place outside. If the temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit (this includes factoring in the WINDCHILL), recess will be indoors. Students should always have appropriate clothing for the weather: Coat, boots, snow pants, hat, and gloves.
Also, please remember to label your child's cold weather clothing. You will be so glad you did!
