Please stop laughing at me
Cierra Thomas
Summary
A summary of Please stop laughing at me would be, at the beginning of the book Jodee was going to her high school reunion. And she really didn’t want to go because she was bullied a lot in high school. All throughout the book she was bullied and she moved schools because it had gotten to the point where she was getting physically hurt and she couldn't stand it any longer. At her new school it hadn’t gotten much better, she was still bullied and they started getting really mean also. Then she had went to Greece when school started and she was there for a month. When she came back she still didn’t have many friends and then she graduated that next year. Then at the end of the book when she went to her high school reunion they all acted like they were her friends. When in high school they were really mean to her, they had realized that they were wrong to bully Jodee and that she never did anything to them. One thing that she said that I think this is one of the only times she actually showed how she really felt was when she said, " I want to kill them like they're killing me." (page 164)
Character Analysis
Jodee Blanco is 13 when the story is taking place but when she is going to her high school reunion she is graduated and older. She has blackish, brown hair and brown eyes. Her hobbies are public speaking and reading. Friendship was important to Jodee all she wanted was for someone to be her friend.
conflict/resolution
Her conflicts are character vs. character and character vs. self. The character vs. character conflict is that she was being bullied by the other kids at her school. The character vs. self conflict would be how she was bringing some of the issues on herself. By saying things that make other people upset. If she wanted to have friends then i feel that she just needed to to keep her mouth shut and wouldn't of said stuff to make people upset. The solution that she had used was that she moved schools the first time. Then she had gone on a trip to grease for like a month and it wasn't any better when she got back. But if you ask me I don't think that there really was a solution that she used. " What a desperate, pathetic fool I was. Time after time, my "friends" had showed me their true colors. Yet, I still wanted to believe they were sorry for causing me pain."( page 128)
Theme
The theme of the book I think would be that bullying can really hurt someone even though it may not seem like it can. it doesn't matter if you are popular or an outcast, you still not be bullied by others. All that matters it that you should accept people for who you are. Some people think that you have to be a part of the popular crowd, but not necessarily you can just have friends are have the same hobbies as you.
Textual evidence
I thought that some of the most important parts in the book were, My favorite quote was “You don't get to pick who you are in this life, but you can decide what you become.” I think this quote means a lot because it is very true and your future has to do completely with what decisions you make on your own. One part of the book that really stood out was part of the ending at her reunion. People at the reunion didn't even know what they put Jodee through when they bullied her through out middle school and high school. it wasn't like she wanted to be friends with everyone, she was longing to have just one person whom wanted to be her friend.
Book reveiw
I thought that the book was probably 4 stars and I think this because it was an okay book. I thought that is was an inspirational book that will teach kids that it isn't okay to bully people. I thought that it was a pretty easy read I would suggest it for someone to read of any age. She had explained what bullying really does to people and how it can really effect someones life.
