As we dive into another Ranger Ready skill, fostering a sense of independence in our students is a key focus. Independence is a crucial skill that not only enhances a child's self-esteem but also equips them with the tools necessary for navigating the challenges of both the academic and social landscapes. As partners in your child's education, we encourage you to join us in promoting independence at home.
Here are some simple yet effective ways you can support your child's journey towards independence:
Establish Routines: Create a daily routine that allows your child to manage their time effectively. Encourage them to take responsibility for tasks such as getting ready for school, organizing their belongings, and completing homework.
Problem-Solving Discussions: Engage your child in discussions that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. This helps them develop the skills to assess situations independently and make informed decisions.
Allow Age-Appropriate Choices: Offer your child choices within reasonable limits. This could involve decisions about clothing, snacks, or extracurricular activities. This practice fosters a sense of autonomy and responsibility.
Chores and Responsibilities: Assign age-appropriate chores that contribute to the well-being of the family. Involving your child in household responsibilities instills a sense of accountability and accomplishment.
Encourage Decision-Making: Provide opportunities for your child to make decisions and learn from the outcomes. This could range from choosing their own books at the library to deciding on a family outing.
By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you play an integral role in helping your child become more independent. Together, let's empower our students with the skills they need to thrive both within and beyond the classroom.
Thank you for your continued support.,
Cassie Williams
Field Trip to the Astra on Monday!
To treat our students with a little surprise from PTO and CCI's Staff, we are taking students to the Astra in Jasper on Monday to watch the movie, "Mr. Popper's Penguins". We will depart from CCI at 12:00 PM and expect to return by 2:30 PM. We believe this experience will not only be enjoyable but also enriching for our students.
If, for any reason, you prefer that your child does not participate in this field trip, kindly send an email to cassie.williams@sedubois.k12.in.us. Your communication is crucial, and we want to ensure we accommodate everyone's preferences.
Thank you!

January 10, Jason Foundation Presentation
Cedar Crest will be hosting a presentation from the Jason Foundation on January 10. The focus of the presentation will be on suicide prevention and awareness, and the importance of seeking help if a student is experiencing thoughts of suicide or feels hopeless. The presentation emphasizes the need to tell a trusted adult if a student is experiencing these feelings, or if they recognize these behaviors in anyone else. The presentation is age-appropriate and will be tailored to the needs of our 5th and 6th grade students. Each presentation will last 45 minutes. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to cassie.williams@sedubois.k12.in.us.
