WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflection signed and complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem (yellow paper). Please have your child return the folder and completed homework sheet by next Friday 9/7.
- Innovation: Students will continue participating in innovation rotations where they go to other third grade classrooms and each classroom focuses on a specific topic: Growth Mindset, Google Apps, Leader in Me, STEM challenges.
- Language Arts -We will continue working on our first unit: Government for the People. The essential question we are focusing on is: Why do People Participate in Government? This week students will continue to read a variety of texts related to government and focus on identifying key details and determining the main idea. Additionally students will be answering questions about the text and using evidence to support their answer.
- Math -The big concepts of this unit include addition, subtraction, rounding, graphing and place value/number sense. For more information about this unit, please read the Parent Letter. This week we will continue to practice place value, rounding to the nearest 10 and nearest 100, and begin reviewing the different addition and subtraction strategies. Students will be using the math programs Reflex and Tenmarks to strengthen their understanding of the math concepts and application of the skills they are learning.
- Writing -We will continue to review the three genres of writing: narrative, opinion, and informative. Students will continue to focus on narrative writing and will finish writing a letter to a friend explaining how they felt and what they did on the day a flood hit their city by using details from the text we read called, "Working Together."
- Spelling- Students will engage with words using short vowel sounds. They will complete a variety of activities with practicing these patterns and apply them in their own writing.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind. I encourage you to have discussions at home with your child about their goals and a plan for success!
