Personal Statement

This is the only part of the application that is personalised. This is the students chance to sell themselves. Whilst grades are often the first criteria for selection, in competitive courses (which they all are!) this statement could make all the difference. We advise all students to make their statement 80% academic and 20% extra-curricular.

Work experience

Vital to ensure your son/daughter stands out. It shows passion and commitment to their chosen career path.

  • Can be taken in the last four weeks of term.
  • Preferably in August.

Teaching and learning developments @ EPHS

From September we will be 'flipping the classroom'. We are confident that this method of learning will help provide students prepared and equipped with the necessary skills to move to undergraduate study. The 'flipped classroom' promotes independent learning and lesson time is used to apply the knowledge gained in creative ways, also allows lesson time to be used to intervene with those who are underachieving and stretch the more able.
Teaching for Tomorrow: Flipped Learning

Use of technology

Technology is vital to the flipped learning approach. All Year 12 into Year 13 students will be issued with an iPad mini in September 2013 (pilot in the last four weeks of term)A small contribution towards insurance and case to encourage students to look after their iPads during their course.Students will then take ownership of their iPads at the end of the course.
