Thelma Jones Elementary Week of May 18th-22th
Greetings Shark Families!!
We truly appreciate the support we have been given from our shark families.
As stated last week, we are pulling back on lessons to provide time for our families to turn in assignments. I hope this is proving to be helpful this week. It is our responsibility to provide grades, even through this unique situation. With that being said, please know that we are here to work with our families. Please reach out to your student's teacher with any work related questions or expectations.
Proof of Residency 2020-2021
2020-2021 Changes in Submitting Proof of Residence
Mansfield ISD welcomes you and your family to a new school year! Before school starts in August, all students are required to provide proof of residence (POR).
All families with returning students to Mansfield Independent School District may email their proof of residence to their student’s current campus at: Tjones_POR@misdmail.org
PLEASE NOTE: Each campus has their own email address, so if you have multiple students at different campuses, you will need to send a separate POR to each campus’ email.
Satisfactory proof of residence includes:
- Electric, Gas, or Water Bill – with May service dates or later
Newly Established Residency in last 30 days includes:
- Lease Agreement
- The lease agreement may be acceptable if it is new (30 days or less).
- Is used when you do not have a utility bill and the lease states bills are paid by lessor.
- Other documentation may be requested when a utility bill is not available.
- The lease agreement must list the student occupants.
Any of the above forms of proof of residency utilized by MISD residents must show a service address. Lease agreements must show a beginning and ending date and the address of the property with signatures from both the lessor and lessee. Families who have a contract on a home that will close within 45 days of the beginning of school, will need to confer with Student Services on applicable Board Policies and guidelines for enrollment. Failure to provide the necessary documentation may result in enrollment delays or withdrawal from school.
4th Grade Clap-Out!
MISD Parent Feedback and Needs Assessment
All Mansfield ISD parents/guardians are encouraged to complete the district’s feedback and needs assessment survey.
Through the survey, MISD will understand how to best support students in a distance learning environment, with specific focus on well-being and social-emotional learning. The survey will also be used to understand the needs of families.
Data collected will help the district plan for the 2020-21 school year.
The survey will be available May 18 through June 1. Please note that no identifying information will be collected or reported except for the name of the campus being referred.
If you have questions regarding this survey, contact Dr. Kisha McDonald, director of social-emotional learning, at KishaMcDonald@misdmail.org.
Thank you to those who picked up student items last week. We were able to distribute most of the student items. We also received a lot of library books, but we are still missing quite a few. If you have a library book at home, please contact your child's teacher. We will make arrangemens to retrieve it.
A note from our yearbook publishers...
We appreciate your partnership and understanding throughout this time.
We have pictures from the Valentine's Dance. Someone will be reaching out to you this week with more information.
Thelma Jones Google Webpage with Lessons
Like most of you, I am finding that each day brings a new set of unexpected challenges. I continue to walk a thin tightrope between taking care of my kids and working from home. I’m a glass half full kind of person who tries to find something positive in each new day. Some days it’s easy. Some days, not so much. Check out the third video in the series Motivational Moments from the Just Say Yes! Organization: When Life Gives You Lemons:
As a counselor I often use literature and humor to share life lessons with children. My favorite series to do this with is the Piggie and Elephant Series by Mo Willems. He has created LUNCH DOODLES with Mo Willems for students to watch while they are distance learning at home. Mr. Willems talks about writing children’s stories and even gives drawing lessons. It’s a lot of fun and anyone can do it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmzjCPQv3y8
Enjoy these last few days of school. I, for one, am going to take my very chaotic lemons and make lemonade! You can request a check in for any reason, whether there is a social emotional issue that needs to be addressed or you just want to visit. Know that you are loved, and I am here for you!
Credit By Exam Registration Grades K-5
Mansfield Independent School District will provide Credit by Exam in grades one (1) through twelve (12) for the purpose of grade acceleration. This exam is for students who have had NO instruction in the grade they are requesting to accelerate. Students in grades one (1) through five (5) may be accelerated one grade level upon successful completion of the exam, school recommendation, and parent consent.
