The Weekly Update
Springfield Twp MS - Season 6, Episode 38 - June 2
From the Principals
June is LGBTQIA+ pride month, and we will be honoring and recognizing the LGBTQIA+ community. This month, we will be featuring LGBTQIA+ culture and prominent individuals in announcements and on displays throughout the middle school as we do for other recognitions of this type. Our hope is to foster and promote awareness and acceptance that will contribute to a sense of belonging for all members of our school community.
Summer Reading
Spartan Sports (2023/2024)
Rising 7th graders and 8th graders are eligible for PIAA sports. You need to meet two requirements to play: 1) registration through family ID and 2) impact testing.
1) Registration information:
The registration process for athletics has moved online to Family ID. Section 6 of the PIAA form must be uploaded to Family ID to complete the registration process and is the only page that needs to be uploaded. Directions for registration can be found using this link. All athletes must have completed PIAA Sports Physical Paperwork turned in prior to athletic participation. Sports physicals can be completed by family doctors or by physicians at a Minute Clinic. There are Minute Clinics at the Jenkintown CVS and the Walgreens in North Wales. Please bring Section 6 of the PIAA form to the sports physical appointment. All physicals for this school year must be documented by a physician after June 1st. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Kieran Brady Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. Important Note* If you are playing multiple sports within one school year, you only need to visit your family doctor/minute clinic once - and you only have to register on Family ID once. After the first submission within one school year, you only need to complete the recertification process online using Family ID to register for another sport. This can only be completed within 6 weeks of the new sport's start date.
2) Impact Testing:
Impact testing is for students who have not played a sport before at Springfield. ImPact Testing is a precautionary measure that allows our athletic trainer to gather a baseline set of data regarding each student's brain activity. If there is ever a head injury, our athletic trainer, along with a family physician, would be able to compare the brain activity from the baseline assessment to the current brain activity, post-head injury. We will be having a testing session after school on Tuesday, June 6th. I strongly encourage all students who need to impact test to come on June 6th. There will be additional sessions during the first week of school. The test will take 30 minutes and students will only need their computer. Students will have access to the late bus at 4 pm.

From the Library
The STMS Library is again offering Summer Book Checkout to current 6th and 7th grade students who plan to return to STMS in the Fall. When they bring in a signed permission slip, students may check out up to 10 books from the library to borrow for the summer months. Prevent summer learning slide, help your student get a head start on Summer Reading requirements, or save money on books for your voracious reader by borrowing them from us! All students may pick up a permission form from the library, from their ELA teacher, or by printing one at home by clicking here. The ELA class with the highest number of students who bring in their permission slips and check out at least one title for the summer will receive a popsicle party sponsored by the STMS Library.
