Attendance this week...
Remember: Students must be in attendance at least 90% of the days the class is taught in order to receive credit or a final grade in a class. We appreciate our parents' efforts in helping us minimize student absences and prepare our students for their futures!
Interim Principal Update: A Note From Mr Tucker
I hope that this finds you all well. Things are moving fast and furious at LVMS. Next week is an important and critical week. Our kids will all be taking a number of STAAR tests. There is much discussion about the need and over emphasis of such tests. Even so, the impact that they have on students, parents, schools and communities can not be over stated.
With that in mind, I wanted to ask you to make sure that our kids get a restful night's sleep each evening next week. It is important that they have a good breakfast as well. They need that fuel to help manage the long testing cycle. We plan to have snacks for them as well. Anything that can be done to help the kids feel more at ease and comfortable is a good thing. Your efforts in this regard are appreciated.
Following the STAAR tests next week we will move into a preparation period for final exams and all that entails. Exams will start on Friday, May 19 and continue into the next week. A definite schedule will be forthcoming. Of course, the last day of school is May 25, a half day. The day will be dedicated to a number of important events, primarily awards assemblies/yearbook signing. More information will also follow per these events.
And finally, on a more personal basis, it has been my privilege to serve the kids and you. The experience has been rewarding due to the support of the community, parents, staff and the kids. This is a wonderful community, dedicated to its children and their well being. What a joyful place, a blessing for all concerned. My last day will be May 26. I will miss the interactions, the smiles and the delight that exists here. Please feel free to contact me in these few remaining days if I can help you in some way.
Best wishes, ct
Classroom Distractions
The teachers are concerned about the class disruption associated with "spinners", cubes and putty/slime. Students are preparing for the STAAR, to be followed shortly by final exams. The kids need to be focused. Thanks for having your child keep all spinners, cubes and putty/slime at home.
I would also ask you to remind your children that cell phones should be placed in back packs once the school day begins. The cell phone should not be accessed during the day without teacher/adult permission.
Again, thanks for your support as we focus on learning this last 20 plus days.
Girls' Golf Results from Burnet 4/27
Our Lago Vista MS girls golf team had a very successful week in windy Burnet on Thursday. This was a much harder course than last week; tall hazard grass lined each fairway and wasn't very forgiving. Despite that difficulty, almost every golfer improved her score by at least a stroke from last week! That is the goal at this age level, to see some personal improvement each week. This, in turn, improves our team scores and overall standings.
Our Lago Vista 'A' Team of Sarah Long, Schuyler Burke, Esther Long, Kylie Cagle, and Cailey Nuckolls took 5th place out of 10 teams with a team score of 227. A 10 stroke improvement from last week!
Our Lago Vista 'B' Team of Makenna Walker, Kylie Raggio, Gina Chiappone, Gabby Nolette, and Emily Moxley took 7th place out of 10 teams with a team score of 235. A 6 stroke improvement from last week!
Our 2 medalists did outstanding this week with Rileigh Oliver tying for 8th overall out of 58 golfers, and Bella Zaleski tying for 14th overall out of 58 golfers.
