Broadmoor's Weekly Wildcat News!
September 9-13, 2019
Student Support
As educators, we work diligently to provide a safe and caring environment in which all students can learn. Supporting students emotionally, as well as academically, is one of our top priorities.
We recognize the diverse needs of our learners and are proud and excited to offer support to our students, not only at BES, but also district-wide.
One of the most exciting changes this year is the addition of a full-time social worker at each building in our district. BES is lucky to have Sara McIntire all to ourselves this year! Mrs. McIntire provides support to our students, families and our staff. She plans informative lessons for our classrooms, support for students and is implementing many programs this year for students and staff.
Wildcat Crew is one of the programs she is starting. It is a partnership with LHS students to provide after school clubs and opportunities. More information will be coming and sign-ups will start September 11th.
Another exciting program is Teammates. This is a one-on-one, school based mentoring program. Mentors and their mentees see each other once a week during lunch to connect and check in. You can learn more at www.teammates.org
Throughout the school year, we will host the Healthy Kids-Strong Families parent events. Pizza and child care are provided at no cost to you! On September 18th, Jennifer Levinson of Speak Up will be presenting about suicide education and prevention. She is also coming to speak to our Broadmoor students on September 26th. Please see the attached letter regarding this assembly and plan to attend on the 18th to hear her message for parents and for students.
Sometimes students need breaks in their day. Sometimes students experience anxiety or stress. We believe it is extremely important to empower students to understand their feelings and know that it is ok to not feel ok all the time. When we feel this way, there are many different ways to help us feel better. Some like to exercise, so we have opportunities through our PE classes to learn different sports and activities. Some like to read, so we provide places in our classrooms where students can relax and read. Some like to be calm, so we are providing time for the students to learn mindfulness in order to relax and breathe. We are committed to help students find whatever helps them to regulate their emotions and do their best. Little kids have big emotions, and it is up to us as adults to help them navigate those emotions!
As always, please know that you are a part of the BES family. If you ever have concerns, please come to us. We are happy to help you troubleshoot this parenting gig that we are all in together! It takes a village, and we hope that you see BES as a part of your family's village!
Thank you and have a wonderful week,
Cindy Apple, Principal
