OUT OF RESPECT FOR OUR BISHOP EMERITUS, THE DIOCESAN PASTORAL CENTER WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, JANUARY 30, IN ORDER TO ALLOW DIOCESAN STAFF TO ATTEND BISHOP CLARK'S FUNERAL.

CATECHIST FORMATION THE MASS

Join us, and invite your catechists to join us, on MARCH 8 for conversations around "The Mass." Don will share some approaches to teaching about the Mass at various ages on the Zoom calls. During the Eucharistic Revival, a lot of focus has been on the importance of learning (or re-learning) about the Liturgy and the Eucharist. We will start with the basics that young children can grasp and work our way into deeper topics. From vocabulary to visuals - the opportunity to learn when it comes to the Mass is endless!

This workshop is geared primarily to catechists, but would benefit Children's Liturgy of the Word volunteers, Liturgy Committees, and parents preparing for First Communion. The workshop will be offered twice via ZOOM at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Registration link can be found in the QUICK LINKS at the top of the page!

TIP OF THE MONTH

From: Change it Up/Over 150 Catechetical Ideas to Add Variety to Your Lessons by Lee Danesco

In Chapter 2, Lee discusses ways to change your voice to accomplish various goals. For example, LOWER your voice to say key words in a prayer and RAISE your voice when reading a powerful Scripture passage. SLOW your speech to quote Jesus and SPEED UP your speech to build excitement, as appropriate! Regulating your speech using these methods, helps to draw attention to what you want the students to hear and engages their listening ears! Try changing up your voice when teaching your next class and observe how it helps to hold attention during your program!

For more ideas read Change it Up! This season's catechetical resource focus, available from our lending library!

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

Brilliant! 25 Catholic Scientists, Mathematicians, and Supersmart People written by David Michael Warren and illustrated by Jaclyn Warren and published by the Word on Fire Institute. This book, appropriate for elementary-age students and up, is filled with interesting biographies on the scientific work of St. Hildegard of Bingen, Father Christopher Clavius, Laura Bassi, Louis Braille, Father Georges Lemaitre, Father Gregor Mendel, Pope Francis and more! The introduction begins: "Have you heard these lies? You cannot be a true scientist and believe in God." Many of us have heard that same phrase in our ministries. This book gives you the tools to talk about the amazing work of Catholic Scientists and Mathematicians who are known as the "Father of Acoustics," the "Father of Modern Geology," the "First Female Professor of Physics," "Father of the Big Bang Theory," "Inventor," "Chemist," "Astronomer," "Environmentalist," and more! This is a great secondary resource to have in class for story time or to create interesting projects for the whole parish to view!

PASSING THE TORCH: A SEASON OF CELEBRATION FOR MINISTRIES WITH YOUNG ADULTS

CATHOLIC SCOUTING

FAITH FLIGHT- BEGINS IN FEBRUARY!

A scout from McQuaid Jesuit High School has decided to work with the Diocese of Rochester Catholic Committee on Scouting to create a faith series for his Eagle Scout project. The Journey of Faith series will be a three-year series, which the Diocese of Rochester Catholic Committee on Scouting will take over after year one, that will engage scouts and their families in the National Eucharistic Revival. Scouts and their families will visit different faith communities within the Diocese of Rochester. Each visit will include attending Mass/participating in a prayer experience and learning more about what makes that community unique. More information including dates, locations, times, and registration for year one can be found at https://conta.cc/3TqRQQ7.

The deadline is quickly approaching for our Diocesan Eucharistic Revival TEEN RETREATS: SOURCE AND SUMMIT, offered at two locations in our diocese on March 4.

RCIA REGISTRATIONS

Registration for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion are still up. We need information before Lent. (I can't believe we're talking Lent and Easter already!) We use the registration to help us plan for that Rite, but also to help us report numbers to the USCCB and to generate the delegation letters you may need for Easter Vigil.

The registration can be found at: http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=fh8zfumab&oeidk=a07ejigpnml762e984e. Please note that when you register, you will be directed to a confirmation page and receive a confirmation email. If you do not, this means we did not receive the registration, and you need to try again. Sometimes it is a matter of taking too long and the system timing out. If it continues to be an issue, email me.

An email went out to pastors and my RCIA list, but if you have someone new doing RCIA, please share with them.

CONFIRMATION RETREATS

A number of requests have come in asking if we know when other parishes are offering their Confirmation retreats so a candidate who has to miss their parish retreat can join another. We currently do not have such a list, but would LOVE to make one!

If you are open to others joining you (with prior notice, obviously), please email Don with dates & times, cost, and who to contact. Our preference would be that coordinators work with coordinators on behalf of parents when scheduling make-up retreats so that everyone is on the same page. Once I have the information, I will put together a list that can be shared.

SPRING 2023 CONFIRMATION SCHEDULE

The schedule for Spring Confirmations has gone out. If you did not get a copy, or need an updated one, please let Don know (donald.smith@dor.org).

If you need to make adjustments for individuals who are unable to celebrate on your parish's assigned date, please work through Don. I have already started making these adjustments, and the numbers on any given night have already changed.
