Instructional Coach Strategy/Resource:
Exit Slips-Exit slips are a powerful way for students to clarify what they do/don’t know. Exit slips also force participation from all students and give the teacher instant formative feedback to drive the next step in instruction. Below are 10 exit slip ideas that you could try or modify to meet your students’ learning goals. The important part is to read and use student responses to clarify learning and drive instruction.
1. If you were writing a quiz over what we learned today, what are two questions that you would put on it?
2. What is the most important thing that we did today?
3. What did you contribute to the group today?
4. How could what you learned today be used in the real world?
5. Write a 2 minute 2 dollar (or more) summary of what we learned today. Each word counts as 10 cents.
6. Write three academic words on the board that students need to include in their 2 minute summary.
7. Have question stems from Bloom’s posted in the room. Students use the question stem to write a question about today’s lesson. The next day, questions are randomly passed out and students answer each other’s questions.
8. Would using particular exit slips be helpful to include in your student portfolios?
9. Write 3 things that you learned today, 2 questions that you still have, and one A-HA moment.
10. Pretend your friend was absent from class today and she asked you to explain what we learned. What would you tell her?
Bonus-Paper Slide-On paper, small groups sketch and write what they learned, team representatives line up and one at a time slide their work under a video camera.Book Studies:
- For the November staff meeting, the following should be read of each book:
- Midnight Run – pages 43-62
