The Roderick Review
April 2020
April Updates
I hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time. At the end of this health crisis, I'm confident that we will become stronger as a school community. During the school closure, we aim to support your child academically, socially, and emotionally through the Wrentham Public Schools Remote Learning Plan and frequent communication with teachers and support staff.
Over the past few weeks I have been working from home, reading, running outside, and going on walks with my wife and daughter. Since we are not at school, I hope your children have had a chance to read, exercise, play an instrument, and practice academic skills through various online resources. I would love to hear from your child about what academic and extracurricular interests they have participated in during this time. Please feel free to have your child email me at martesk@wrenthamschools.org if they would like to tell me about what they have been doing at home.
The dedicated Roderick School staff members have been preparing a weekly learning plan with reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and choice specialist lessons. Students will also have multiple opportunities each week to meet with their teacher through Google Meets! We hope that this structured schedule of activities will help the students maintain a routine and improve skills previously taught in their classrooms. Please do not hesitate to let me or your child’s teacher know if you have any questions or concerns.
Please stay safe and healthy!
Sincerely,
Kevin Martes
Principal

April’s word of the month, and focus for schoolwide classroom lessons, is Inclusivity. We thought about changing this word for April but then realized how difficult it must be for all of our students to feel included right now. Our students are in a unique position to be able to reflect upon what it really means to be included and to continue to use each of their unique strengths and skills to make the world a better place where everyone feels they belong.
What is it? Inclusivity is including people who might otherwise be excluded
Why is it important? Individuals are more successful when they feel they can use their unique strengths and skills every day. Inclusivity allows everyone to feel they belong and builds trust and productiveness
What does it look like? Cooperation, collaboration, accountability, curiosity, fair, respectful, belonging
