A Message from Mrs. Mulcahy

Friday, Nov. 20th, from 2:00 – 2:45, JHE students will celebrate with our annual Thankful Party. Due to Covid restrictions, this will look different this year. In-person students will celebrate at school with their classmates (no visitors will be allowed this year). KVA students will celebrate at home via Zoom. PTA is supplying a snack and craft for students. Students will also play a game and spend some time socializing. We are thankful to our JHE PTA for all their help behind the scenes to make this a fun time for our students.

We appreciate all the support and kind words you have been providing the staff at JHE; it is greatly appreciated. We would like to wish all of our Hayes families a Happy Thanksgiving and a relaxing break. Classes will resume on Nov. 30th for both virtual and in-person students.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Talking Book Program (TBP)

Throughout Texas, children with disabilities that prevent them from reading standard print are enjoying the world of reading through the Talking Book Program (TBP). The TBP is a FREE service that allows students with a reading disability, like dyslexia, the opportunity to read. The TBP offers more than 125,000 titles and 80 plus magazines, all read with human narration. Materials can be downloaded via the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) Mobile app, on a smartphone or tablet. The program is completely free, with no charges and no overdue fees. For more information, visit www.tsl.texas.gov/tbp/reading_disabilities, email tbp.services@tsl.texas.gov or call 1-800-252-9605. The TBP staff will be happy to answer questions and help parents apply for service.

If your child has not been identified as having a reading disability, please be aware that Katy ISD offers audio books for all students through the following programs:

• Sora eBook/Audiobooks

• myON

• Benchmark Universe

• Istation

Contact your child’s campus for more information about Katy ISD’s audiobook programs.

Attention Pre-K thru 2nd Grade ESL Parents

You are invited to a Parent Workshop

Our JHE ESL department will be using a resource called ReadyRosie to communicate with you and to provide meaningful activities that you can do at home to support your child’s learning.

Ready Rosie is a simple tool that helps parents:

  • Discover activities and games you can play that relate to classroom learning.
  • Have more fun than ever with your child through meaningful interactions.

The best part is that each activity/ game is modeled in a 2 minute video so you and your child can watch together and then play the game! You will receive these videos and communication via text message and/ or email.

To attend this Parent Workshop, please register at https://forms.gle/jSMhK5gHmm5a5C968 or see the attached flyer for more information.

Growing Healthy Hearts & Minds

Kids Heart Challenge! The 2019-2020 Thank You gifts are going home today! If your child participated in the Kids Heart Challenge during the Spring then they should be bringing home their well earned thank you gift from the American Heart Association.

KVA Families- if your child donated in the Spring, Thank You gifts will be located in the front office and will be available for pick up.

Thank you to all the families that have supported the American Heart Association. We look forward to the Health Challenge coming in Spring 2021. Please email Coach H at SamanthaJHenrichsen@katyisd.org if you have any questions!

Music Notes

KVA Parents:

Please remember that Music is not optional for KVA students. There are weekly activities and assignments uploaded into the Canvas course for Music. These activities are various songs, rhythmic activities, music reading, games, and listening exercises. Some of these activities require a response to be submitted from your child, while others are just there for them to participate in and enjoy. If you have not accessed your child’s Music course on Canvas, please do so. Their participation with the Canvas material is how I give report card grades. I am able to go into Canvas and view how much time each student is spending on their Music lessons. The assignments need to be completed each week. If you or your child is ever having issues with Canvas or needing help, please do not hesitate to contact me at KimberlyPeterson@katyisd.org. You can send me a direct message in Canvas or an email. Please email me if there are extenuating circumstances that cause your child to not be able to do online lessons. Thank you for your support.

Notes from the Nurse

All students are required to wear a facemask or shield at school and it should cover their nose and mouth completely. Face coverings include disposable facemasks and cloth face coverings (over the nose and mouth), and face shields. Full-face shields may be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth and must cover one’s face, extending below the chin. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Please contact Nurse Terrell if your child is absent due to illness to discuss return to school procedures.
