Mrs. Salemi's Classroom News!
December 2020
The winter season is approaching and just as the quote states..."Kindness is like snow, it beautifies everything it covers". Kindness is something we continue to remember to express in our daily interactions in school as well as home. It's the small acts of kindness that bring us closer together and make us feel full emotionally. I appreciate the small acts of kindness my students share with me on a daily basis. I hope kindness fills your home this upcoming winter.
Thanks for your support,
Mrs. Salemi
It was such a pleasure...
Important Information-Blended Learning (Coming Soon)
The Board of Education will meet Thursday, December 3rd at 7pm to discuss our Blended Learning Plan. Please tune in or look for more information regarding Blended Learning in the near future.
November Enrichment
Here is what we have been learning about last month!
Reading:
- We have started our second unit in Units of Study by Lucy Calkins. This unit's focus is on nonfiction texts. We have discussed the different types of text structure that author's use, such as: chronological order, compare/contrast, problem and solution, and cause and effect. We have also practiced how to identify unknown words by looking at clues within a text (context clues).
- This unit will also lead us into our first research project on extreme weather.
Writing:
- We finished our first unit in our new writing curriculum as well! Students really focused on small moments and made their personal narratives come alive by adding detail, dialogue and feelings. We have also started our next unit in writing which will focuses on opinion writing.
Math:
- We continue to work in Module 3 which focuses heavily on multiplication and division. Students have been learning a variety of strategies such as area model and place value model in order to have a better understanding of long division. Please make sure your child continues to practice their multiplication/division facts.
- Need help getting a better understanding of math? Check out my website or here for more support!
Science/Social Studies:
- We finished our first social studies unit that dealt with government and how to be a good citizen.
- We have started our next bundle in science that is all about energy!
SELS (Social Emotional Learning Standards):
- Our theme for the month of November was MINDFULNESS. Students did a variety of activities that were all about being mindful, taking time to re-focus and hear their inner thoughts.
