Our Path Note Topic
This week is National Teacher/Educator Appreciation Week. Congratulations to all of our staff.
The 2020/21 school year has probably been the most challenging and tough year most of us have encountered...and, for good reason. We jumped into the unknown. You all came to work knowing there were risks. However, you took those risks for the children of this community. Everyone knew that most students are better off when an adult in the room is a better learning environment than virtual. Although there are some learners that are successful with virtual learning, most kids are better off in school. You make a difference.
When districts and teachers across the nation were criticized for not opening schools for students, WASD remained open. When things got extremely challenging during the fall, WASD remained open when possible.
It took courage on everyone's part. From the school board to every staff member spending all day with the children of the Waynesboro Area School District.
This year did not go unnoticed. US Congressman Joyce recognized WASD on the floor of the US Congress. The parents of WASD have expressed thanks for the district being open and our staff coming to school everyday. Other district families recognized WASD for being in school all school year. Downtown Waynesboro, WABEC have recognized the staff by providing a night out at the movies. Others are recognizing your efforts.
Below is a list of local and national businesses that are appreciating educators this week. Please click on the link to access.

Piece of the Puzzle
Butch Cali is WASD's Piece of the Puzzle this week. Butch is WAMS new head custodian and has been going above and beyond getting things done and making sure things are being taken care of. Butch is super friendly and extremely helpful. He has literally been on his hands and knees scraping gum from sidewalks in the mornings and making sure everything is pristine. He is super motivated and is working extremely hard! We are all happy to have him here at WAMS.
Please congratulate Butch as our Piece of the Puzzle!

Just as organizations have realized they can help reduce heart disease by encouraging exercise, they can also reduce suicide by promoting mental health and encouraging early identification and intervention. This training gives participants the skills and tools to appreciate the critical need for suicide prevention while creating a forum for dialogue and critical thinking about workplace mental health challenges, and by promoting help-seeking and help-giving.
