Important Tech Info
The new IOS 8 for the student iPads was released yesterday. The district is asking that students NOT accept the update. The district is going to check it, and then push the update to student iPads afterwards. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me.
THIRD GRADE
This week third graders began their self-awareness unit taking virtual tours inside some of the most famous museums in the world. They followed their exploration by trying out their research skills to solve the Who Am I? artist mystery.
We are going to partner with two other elementary schools in LISD to take our GT third graders to Dallas Museum of Art on October 15th. Specific information and permission slips will be coming home next week.
FOURTH GRADE
This week in fourth grade they researched the job descriptions of those who are responsible for writing and producing a news show. This is the start of them creating and producing BB Owen's Morning News Show. We would like to go live September 29th, but we may have to postpone one week; there's still lots of planning to do. Stay tuned!
Collaboration
FIFTH GRADE
This week in fifth grade they started their first unit about self-perception by taking a closer look at multiple perspectives. They went into the school garden and were asked to use their iPads to show two perspectives of two animals that may be found in our garden; one flying animal and one crawling, non-flying animal. Then they were asked to produce a product that could be used to introduce/teach the subject of perspective to fourth grader writers. They also created a unit folder in their Google Drive that will house all their ongoing work and thinking. Ask your child to share it with you from time-to-time.
You may have also noticed that your fifth grader has brought home a new book. They are taking part in a book study this unit using the book "Ungifted", which is written from multiple perspectives. Take a peek http://www.audiobooks.com/audiobook/ungifted/144127.
