NEWS FROM THE NEST
May 2022
Wrapping up the 2021-2022 school year....
The end of the year is emotional. It is emotional because our 5th grade students were our 1st class of kindergarteners. I can still remember many of them and their parents at the unveiling of the Eagles mascot (see picture) and now they are moving on to Discovery Middle School. The very place where they were sitting as preschoolers waiting for the new mascot to make the big debut. The time has passed so quickly. They are incredibly wise students that have come so far since that first day of school six years ago. Born to be leaders, they will continue to make a difference.
I will miss the 5th grade parents that have been so dedicated to our school. I appreciate all of the work they did to get our PTA up and running. They were visionaries and they were ALWAYS positive supporters of Eagles. We are better because you were a part of us from the very beginning. You will not be forgotten.
To all of our students in kindergarten - grade 4, we are looking forward to next school year and all of the new challenges ahead.
Have a safe summer and we will see you in August!

FREE SCHOOL MEALS ENDING JUNE 2022
A waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has enabled schools across the nation, including Fargo Public Schools, to provide all students free meals since the COVID-19 pandemic first disrupted K – 12 education in March of 2020. The free school meal benefits will expire after the last school day of the 2021 – 2022 school year.
What does this mean for families? In the fall of 2022, meals will return to paid-for status. Families will need to pay full price for student meals or fill out an application to qualify for free or reduced price meals. Applications for the 2022-2023 school year will be available starting July 1, 2022. Applications will be available on the Nutrition Services Department website after that date and will be shared at the start of the 2022-23 school year with families.
Virtual Academy
Recently, Fargo Public Schools made the decision to continue its Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 school year. For planning purposes, we need to gather information regarding interest for next year.
Elementary (grades K-5): The elementary model will stay the same through the North Dakota Center for Distance Education (NDCDE).
Secondary (grades 6-12): Secondary students will utilize a program called Edgenuity for core classes. This program, currently used at the high schools for credit recovery coursework, provides greater flexibility to meet students’ academic needs. In addition, secondary students will have the opportunity to meet via Zoom with an FPS instructor at scheduled times throughout the day. Elective courses will be offered through NDCDE at the secondary level.
Please complete the survey linked below to indicate your interest in attending the Fargo Public Schools Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 school year: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfFZEu1-qzxbzL7xn_Pq_txT2LnKXhJfURO9Kkx76Y7OtGGyg/viewform?usp=sf_link

PTA Update
Thank you for another successful year of Eagles PTA! It was wonderful to bring back some favorite events while continuing to grow and adapt the ways PTA advocates and empowers students and families.
Please join us in expressing gratitude to outgoing Eagles PTA President Brittaney Vanderhagen for her years of service. Thank you for everything you’ve done for this organization! We appreciate your leadership. Congratulations to Sascha Cariveau, the new Eagles PTA President!
Even as the school year is winding down, PTA still has some great events ahead:
PTA Meeting
All are welcome to attend the final PTA Meeting of the year at 7 pm Monday, May 9, in the third-grade pod. This follows Kindergarten Round-Up at 5:15 pm at Eagles and the Future Eagles Expo for 5th grade families at Discovery from 6 to 6:30 pm.
Spotlight Night and Color Run
Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 12! Spotlight Night begins at 6 pm. Check out projects by our Aces, enjoy performances in the gym, and shop the BOGO Book Fair in the library beginning at 5:30 pm. Pizza, cookies and water will be available for purchase.
At 7 pm, weather permitting, head outside for the PTA-sponsored Color Run! Students will walk/jog/run a loop (less than a mile) around the school while getting doused in color. Parent and family volunteers are needed to throw the colored powder. Students should wear a light-colored cotton shirt and bring their own water bottle as well as a towel to clean up afterward. Sunglasses recommended to protect Aces’ eyes. Please walk, bike or park in the Courts Plus lot.
Fifth Grade Clap Out
Celebrate the graduating fifth-graders at the Fifth Grade Clap Out on May 26, the last day of school. Line up outside the school’s front doors by 2:30 pm and give them a hand!
Don’t forget you can still submit Box Tops over the summer by downloading the app and scanning your receipts. If you or your business would like to sponsor the 2022 Walk-a-Thon this fall, please email eagleacespta@gmail.com.
Take care, Eagles families! Have a great summer!
