Parent Meetings This Week
We will be delivering instruction using a hybrid model that is not entirely, virtual support and not entirely simultaneous. There will be some direct instruction for in person students as well as some time online. Students remaining virtual should expect to have an experience very similar to their current experience. Please attend the March meeting for your child's grade to hear the details on how this will be done. (March 3rd-Kindergarten & March 4th- 1st & 2nd Grades). The Zoom information will be sent on the afternoon of the meeting. The meetings will be recorded and made available at the end of the meeting. The recordings will only be available for 72 hours after the meeting. We have requested translation services for Spanish, Amharic and ASL.
Changes from In Person to Virtual and From Virtual to In Person
If you wish to make a change in your preference for your child, please email Ms. Paz at Johanna_A_Paz@mcpsmd.org.
Open House
Students returning to in person learning at TPES will have an opportunity to see their classrooms. On March 3, 2021, first and second grade students can use the link HERE to sign up for a time to visit the classroom. The teachers may not be present but students will see their learning spaces. To avoid crowding, you must sign up and we can only accommodate one adult with each child. Kindergarten students will have Open House on March 10, 2021. Please use the link HERE to sign up for the Kindergarten Open House. Unfortunately, you can not visit a classroom without signing up.
Parents and their first and second graders will need to come to the main office at the time of your appointment to gain access to the classroom your child will have for the remainder of the school year.
Parents and their kindergarten students will need to go to the exterior doors of their child's classroom. The door numbers will be shared with parents of kindergarten students later this week.
From the PTA
There will be a PTA Meeting this Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. The Zoom link for the meeting will be sent on Tuesday. You will need to log in using your child's MCPS login credentials.
Sharing Our Stories
Please join us for the next Sharing Our Stories -- and let us know if you are interested in being a guest! We have April dates open!
Please join us at Sharing Our Stories, a weekly Zoom PTA event on Mondays at 7:00pm for TPES and PBES families, where we learn about all the amazing identities that make up our school community. Sharing Our Stories programs feature stories using books, objects, oral traditions, family interviews, and more that are meaningful to families, cultures, and communities.
Leaders and educators will share quick tips or resources for families to help their children thrive in remote learning and feel connected to the school community.
Each week, we will randomly select one child to receive a free book!
At the Monday, March 1 Sharing Our Stories, Naveen Parikh (5th grade), a Piney Branch student, will share stories and videos from his first visit to his grandparents' home country of India.
Spanish interpretation is available.
Interested in being a guest storyteller or educator? Email Shana at sabbathshana@gmail.com.

2021 Read-a-thon Begins on Monday
TPES students will run a reading race together, March 1 to March 26. As a school, we will work towards reading for as many minutes as possible and with your help, raise money for the school! This year we are asking students and families to record minutes read through an online form that can be accessed through the Canvas/MyMCPS Read-a-thon page. To learn more about the Read-a-thon, please check out the TPES PTA Read-a-thon website.
Additionally, we know that in this time of economic hardship, and so much time at home, some families may be in need of more print books. The PTA will hold a free book distribution to families on Wednesday, March 10th, 12pm-2pm at Takoma Park ES. If your family is in need of books, the PTA will have new Scholastic books available for free. Limit two books per family. Families from TPES and Piney Branch Elementary are welcome! Please plan to drive up or walk up to choose books, masked and socially distanced of course.
Changes to the School Calendar
There will be no school for students on March 8, 2021. On March 9th & 10th, students will have assignments and/or videos from their teachers that will provide instruction. Teachers will use this time to prepare classrooms, plan for instruction and receive required safety trainings.
