Robotics Competition
This weekend 13 students, fielding two teams, traveled to Issac H Kempner High School in Sugar Land, TX. to compete in the Cougar Classic Robotics Tournament. The New Technicians (the A team) finished third overall in preliminary play and made it to the semifinals. The Waskally Waskobots (the B team) advanced to the semifinals as well. Both of our teams made it to the semifinals in the most attended Cougar Classic ever. Our teams did not qualify for regionals, but we were competitive in all three competitions and have ignited the fire of competition in our underclassmen. The Future is Bright.

What's Coming Up In Art?
February 25, New Tech Art students are competing in our first ever Visual Art Scholastic Event— or VASE competition. They have prepared personal pieces to enter and as a part of the competition, the students will also interview with judges about the meaning and techniques behind their art pieces. We are super excited to have 9 students and 11 entries into this year’s event. We look forward to learning a lot and taking even more student artists next year.
Student artists in the New Tech art program will also be a part of the ArtWorks 2023 show at the Temple CAC from March 24- April 15. Student artists from around the Central Texas area will be featured at the Cultural Arts Center. The Opening Reception is 5-7 pm at the Temple CAC, and viewing is throughout the above dates.
April brings the Big Red Art Sow at Harris Community Center. Date and Time TBA at a later time.

AP Government Moot Court
Students participated in a moot court activity reenacting one of the most influential Supreme Court cases in American History, Marbury v. Madison (1803). Moot court simulates the experience of what it is like arguing a case at the appellate level. To prepare, students studied relevant historical law, wrote arguments, and participated in legal research. During the trial, students played one of three roles: Supreme Court justice, petitioner, or respondent. Justices were responsible for understanding both sides of the case in order to effectively question each side's representation in court, while the petitioner and respondent each drafted and delivered oral arguments and responses. After oral arguments, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court delivered the ruling in favor of Madison.
