A message from the Superintendent
Weekly Communication

August 16, 2023
Dear PV Families,
The campus is a buzz as our Fall athletic teams and Marching Band started their summer practices/rehearsals this week. Some pictures from today's activities are posted below. Additionally, I have included a photo of the tennis courts, which have been lined for pickleball. In response to the strong interest expressed by many in our community, we have now added pickleball lines to the 4 lower courts out of the 12 on campus. These courts are open to the public when students are not in session or practicing. Enjoy!
Also this week, the District welcomes its new teachers. All new teachers must begin their school year early and participate in an induction program. The picture above represents this year's group. They are excited to be members of the PVSD team and we are excited to have them! All are looking forward to greeting students on Monday, August 28.
Speaking of the start of school, don't forget to check out our Back to School website for essential dates and information. Just like in past years, we're thrilled to receive your first day of school photos. Kindly share them with us through email at webmaster@pvsd.org.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer break and we will see your child(ren) on August 28!
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara A. Russell
Superintendent

Board Work Session - Summary from 8/14
The agenda for a typical Business meeting of the School Board includes student recognitions and action on recommendations made during the work session (the previous week's meeting). Many of the items on the work session agenda move to a consent agenda, which is acted upon during the Business meeting with one vote. There are often other items for action on the Business meeting agenda and these are considered individually by section.
The students recognized this month include summer employees of the school district and the ambassadors for the PV Woods. The summer interns assist in completing projects as part of the Technology and Custodial Teams. We are grateful for their dedication and service to the District. The students and staff who support the development of PV Woods were recognized for receiving the Montgomery Award. Congratulations to them!
In addition to approving the consent agenda, action was taken in the Business section to approve an easement agreement with Skippack Township to extend the Palmer Park path along Heckler Rd., and a lease agreement for the purchase of school police vehicles. In the Professional Personnel section (7), an updated job description for the Supervisor of Equity and Student Services, along with performance goals for the assistant superintendent and superintendent were approved.
In the Governance section, our Board approved a resolution indicating support for the State to provide free lunch for all students through the 2023-24 school year. The State has already approved free breakfast for the year and continues to discuss the possibility of also providing free lunch.

Attendance Updates
We strive to create strong working partnerships between our families, students, schools and community. We believe strong relationships are essential to every student’s success and in promoting school attendance. Regular school attendance is necessary in order for our students to gain the greatest benefit from the educational experience. Communication about our attendance policy for the 2023-2024 school year has been summarized here. We hope this will assist our families and students in understanding our attendance policy as well as recognize our efforts to partner with you when challenges arise.
*Board Policy #204 Attendance is currently being updated and will be posted in BoardDocs soon.
Visitor Management System
As a friendly reminder, we have upgraded our visitor management system in each building. Visitors will need to scan their ID (driver's license) prior to being granted admittance into any of our schools. Visit our webpage for more information.
