What's Happening at the "D"

V5 #10 2018/2019

Cherry Dale Fundraiser Pickup is Thursday, April 11th from 3:30 pm until 5:30pm!

A note from the Principal...

Hello DeKeyser families,

April bring so many fun activities at DeKeyser Elementary!

A sure sign of Spring is grade level Field Trips. If you have any questions about your child's field trip, please contact your child's teacher, as teachers set up their own field trips.

The weather can be a bit unpredictable, so field trip and recess outerwear can be a bit unpredictable as well!

It may be helpful to pay close attention to the weather forecast daily, as the temperature can fluctuate from day to day. Please send your children with appropriate outerwear for the varying temperatures.

The end of Quarter 3 is Friday, April 12th. Report Cards will be sent home electronically Monday, April 22nd. It always seems that Quarter 4 goes by so quickly! Let's enjoy every day of this school year together!!

With gratitude,

Mary Beth Merlo

4th Grade Mother/Daughter Maturation Program

School district nurse Rebecca Rosbolt and MISD School Health Consultant Mary Lebodia will present a maturation program for fourth-grade girls and their mothers/guardians, at which time they will answer growth and development questions. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Henry Ford II High School Performing Arts Center. Please note that the flyer below includes a tear-off sheet that parents are asked to return to the school office.

The annual UCS Career Focus Luncheon

Nearly 2,000 UCS sixth graders will be meeting May 1-2 for the annual Career Focus Luncheon, being sponsored by the UCS Foundation for Educational Excellence, in partnership with Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce. It will provide an opportunity for the district's sixth graders, their teachers and principals to meet with local business and community leaders. As members of the Graduating Class of 2025, it will also acquaint students with the variety of career opportunities which exist.

Patricia Lopez, President of Rose-A-Lee Technologies will provide the keynote address.

Business leaders will sponsor the children's participation, by either reserving an entire table of 10 as a corporate sponsor or by purchasing individual sponsorships. If parents who are also local business owners wish to participate, they can contact the UCS Foundation at 797-6953 or email at email@ucsfoundation.org.

Digital Information and Communication Technology - Smart Phones and Smart Watches

Utica Community Schools has a school board policy to address Digital Information and Communication Technology. Unless being used for teacher initiated educational purposes, Smart Phones and Smart Watches can be kept in student backpacks turned off. If you would like more information about School Board Policy 5160, please click here: http://www.uticak12.org/cms/One.aspx?From=kr&portalId=578321&pageId=1221983&objectId.161830=5632868&contextId.161830=2383370&lastCat=6619061

Parking Lot Safety

Safety is number one!

I have heard some concerns from parents lately about parents not following the flow of traffic. If you would like to park on the left side of the parking lot, please follow proper traffic flow and drive through the parking lot. A diagram of traffic flow is attached.

As a reminder:

~The flow of traffic is one way.

~Driving to the parking lot behind the building is NOT allowed, no student drop off in the back of the building.

~Please be courteous to other drivers, kids are most likely within earshot and modeling patience will benefit their learning.

Thank you! :)
