Negley Mission Statement
CAPTAIN CROWTHER'S CORNER
Ahoy Navigator Parents!
Please continue to monitor your student for covid type symptoms and keep them home if they have any of the symptoms. The biggest symptoms we are seeing recently are "allergy" type symptoms - itchy throat, little cough, then fever. When tested, they are coming back "positive".Thank you for your support.
With unprecedented times please take a moment to praise your kids who have been working hard, being responsible with grades, and respectful in class. Especially if your child is learning virtually, it can be very difficult sometimes to remember proper zoom etiquette, taking turns, speaking respectfully, etc. Sometimes the internet is spotty and zooms kick them off, or worse, kicks off the teacher. Be sure to praise them for being patient as they get logged back on, or as they wait for their teacher to rejoin . It shows great maturity when students can cope appropriately and respectfully with glitches in plans, especially things that are out of our control. That’s the true Navigator way!

Negley Yearbooks - Deadlines are quickly approaching!
The 2020-2021 Yearbook is officially on sale! Head to balfour.com and enter Negley Elementary to reserve your copy for $25! This is the early-bird price (through March 13).
DEADLINE APPROACHING: If you have a fifth grader, don't forget to purchase your Prideline Ad to commemorate their elementary school years! See more details in the attached flyer! The deadline to purchase a Prideline Ad is January 31!
HEADSHOTS for YEARBOOK: Recently, you received a personalized link from Balfour to upload a picture of your child for the yearbook. This is how they will be photographed for the yearbook. We will be taking portraits on campus in March, but these will not be ready in time for the yearbook. The deadline to submit a headshot is January 22!
PHOTOS NEEDED! Families: we need your help! Many of our students are learning virtually this year. For a true sense of what this year looks like, we need pictures from home. The more participation we have from families, the better our yearbook will be for everyone. Simplify the photo sharing process with the ImageShare mobile app and follow the directions on the attached flyer. The project number is 119234. We appreciate your help!

Attention 5th grade parents!
Valentine Party update
- Students should bring any cards by the first week of February to be held by the teacher until the Valentine’s celebration.
- If students or staff bring treats they must be store-bought and individually packaged. Treats from students must arrive to be held by the teacher by the first week of February.
- Teachers will hand out cards, treats, etc. on the day of the celebration.
- Students must not exchange any items directly. This is in line with our guidelines on no shared equipment or materials in the classroom.
Daily Health Checks
TEMPERATURE CHECK
*Asking your child how they are feeling
*Look at their face and eyes! This is the FIRST thing we look at when a child is sent to the nurse. Their little eyes will tell you how they are feeling way before symptoms often begin.
If they do not feel well, PLEASE do not send them to school. They can meet with their teacher virtually. If they feel better later in the morning, bring them on in!
Important Student Absence Information! Please read and register your child in Schoology
With this year being a little different than any before, we are constantly trying to improve our procedures to make things as simple as possible for you and your student(s). That being said, we have come up with a new way to ensure that your student gets attendance credit for any day that they miss school, but are at home still working!
In Schoology, your student will need to go to “Courses”, listed at the top of the page, and click on “NES ATTENDANCE”. From there, click on their grade, and then open the pdf. Doing this will ensure that your student gets attendance credit for that day. Please be aware that if your student it out multiple days, you will need to follow this process DAILY. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Kaci at the front desk, 512-268-8501, and/or email nes.attendance@hayscisd.net.
We know rest is best when your student is not feeling well, so if your student is not up to doing any work due to illness, please be sure to email nes.attendance@hayscisd.net so we can code the absence correctly!

Character Trait for the month is Respect
Students who had a blackout on their Kindness Bingo were put into a drawing for a Snowball Fight with Ms. Crowther and Ms. Lumbreras. Congratulations to Cortez in Ms. Sparks' kindergarten class. Cortez will pick a friend and get ready to throw snowballs!
Who does your child have "Mad Respect" for? Next Friday is Mad Respect dress up day. See today's House Assembly for more information!
Counselor's Corner
Found this excellent blog about Generation Z kids. Gives some good information about the children we are raising daily.

While Ms. Winn is testing students, Ms. Liz Kirichenko, Negley’s second counselor, is helping with guidance lessons and touching base with families regarding other resources and student needs. We have learned a lot during 2020, especially in regards to the internet, so that learning and teaching looks very different. This has stretched not only student and family brains, but faculty as well. Guidance lessons are currently posted in Schoology, but Ms. K is also zooming lessons during each month with classes, and has picked up 3rd-5th grade classes. Ms. Winn will resume lessons with 3rd-5th in late March, when testing is complete.
Negley is working to complete the third activity for No Place for Hate and we need your help! If you would like to donate chalk, please send to Ms. Winn’s office. We are preparing for our kindness in chalk project which will be for both the in person and virtual learning community.

- Gator Reader Program, a program that encourages students to read with their parents often. The goal is to read 100 books together over the course of the year. Once your kindergartener finishes one sheet, he/she will turn it in, get a small prize and get a new recording sheet. When they complete all 4 sheets, they will have read 100 books and receive the official GATOR READER T-shirt! Here is a link to the letter and recording log.

Nuggets from Nurse Jill
Dear Negley Parents,
I want to first of all say Happy New Year and here's to a much better year! Thank you all for the kindness and patience you've shown to us as we continue to navigate unchartered waters.
I would also like to share some information regarding our district policies/protocols regarding COVID testing and our efforts to keep all our families as safe as possible. As well as the new quarantine protocol adopted from the CDC.
If anyone in your household gets a test for COVID, please do the following:
- Keep all students home until you get results
- Notify the nurse ASAP
- This applies to all your students on any/all campuses
If your student comes in close contact with a COVID-positive individual outside of school, please do the following:
- Keep your student home
- Notify the nurse ASAP
- If your student is at school when you are notified of the exposure, please make plans to pick them up ASAP.
On 1/4/21, Hays CISD began using the modified close contact quarantine guidelines that the CDC released in December. This means instead of a 14 day quarantine after close contact a person may be able to quarantine for 7-10 days. The determination of whether a person quarantines for 7 or 10 days after close contact with someone who has been determined to have COVID-19 is based on the absence of symptoms and whether or not the person has received a negative covid-19 PCR test.
- If a quarantined individual remains symptom free AND receives a negative covid-19 PCR (not rapid) test result that was collected on or after day 5 of quarantine, they may return to work/school after day 7 of quarantine.
OR
- If a quarantined individual remains symptom free and does not take a covid-19 test during their quarantine, they may return to work/school after day 10 of quarantine.
We will then track this and follow up with you to ensure when it is safe for your student to be back on campus.
Please do not hesitate to call or email me at any time with any questions or concerns.
Thank you and be safe and well.

TRANSPORTATION TAGS
ALL FAMILIES WILL NEED A TRANSPORTATION TAG IF THEY WILL BE PICKING UP THEIR CHILD FROM CAMPUS.
These tags are super important for picking up your child at dismissal. Each family has a distinct number - it is your family number. Instead of calling out your child's name for all to hear, we call your family number. Each family will receive 2 cards and 3 round discs that need to be attached to your child's backpack. If you need extras for another adult that may be picking up your child , just let our Receptionist, Ms. Goodman know when she gives you your original. There will be a $1.00 charge for extra cards OR to replace a lost card after this initial pick up. This fee is to help us with replacement materials. So - the first ones are FREE, but later on there will be the small charge.
PLEASE EMAIL MS. GOODMAN TO SCHEDULE A TIME TO PICK UP YOUR TRANSPORTATION TAGS or STOP BY THE RECEPTION AREA.
If you are picking up your child in the car rider line, these tags can hang from your passenger side visor using a rubber band or from your rearview mirror. It makes it easy for us to see and call your number. If you do not have your car tag, you will be asked to drive to the front office and present your ID in order to pick up your child.
If you are walking to the school to pick up your child, you will need to show your tag to your child's teacher OR the teacher on duty. They will check the number on the card with the tag attached to your child's backpack before releasing your student to you.
